Big surprise that, coming from some turd at Telkom.

Unbundling of the local loop won't solve the problem of faster and more widespread broadband access in South Africa, says Dr Richard Majoor from Telkom

Oh pah'leeeeeeeeeeeease.

If it's not going to make such a big impact, then there's even less reason for you to hold onto it, isn't there?

Go spew your biased BS elsewhere.

LLU isn't suddenly going to fix South Africa's broadband situation.
In Ireland its had little or no effect on the situation, and there have been LLU providers here for 5+ years.
And nor is the mass rollout of "mobile" broadband with 3G (and 4Gs) networks. They just distort the picture.

Oh please...what a bunch of fukn kuk... Typical cover-up policy from Telscum

What did he get his doctorate in? Bullsh*t?

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has been dragging its feet in introducing LLU, and it is highly unlikely that they will meet the 2011 deadline set for this process to have happened.

So when? Never??

Its only worked in every other country in world... can you imagine the laughter when he said that aloud? I-D-10-T Error for sure.

At the rate they adding undersea cables Telkom might soon be able to keep their last mile as every house will have a undersea cable to the door :)

On a serious note though, if LLU won't help then what do we do? Am I just never going to be able to have an ADSL line at home?

Cheaper oil prices won't bring fuel prices down - SASOL
Cheaper bread prices won't feed more people - Sasko
Cheaper electricity won't safe people money - Eskom
More police wont bring down crime - Police

It all depends on who say's what, the guy from telkom is not going to say "yes, LLU will make internet better/cheaper/faster, we just don't want to do it now, because its a real money maker"

lol funny stuff.
doctor of what? BS!!
i r think he been shopping online for Titles. haha .I see they going cheap these days $25 .

Oh my....what an ...ag whatever....

He hammers on how LLU won't help market penetration etc....thats not why we want LLU. We want LLU so that a customer has complete freedom who he/she chooses as a provider!
Right now we're stuck with Telkom, we don't want to be stuck with Telkom.

sweet. then unbundle it - you've got nothing to lose. especially if it's making a loss.
or is this just a pre-emptive press release to cover their a55 when they hit the deadline and haven't done anything about it?

Lies of course. BS from Telkom, as pointed out by everyone here.

Thing is Telkom will NEVER concede to even the remote possibility that LLU could work. It just doesn't make business sense, or so is Telkom's narrow-minded, short-sighted thinking.

We shouldn't care, and shouldn't be ASKING Telkom what they think of LLU. It needs to be enforced. If it turns out not to make a difference to pricing or pentration rates, well at least we tried, instead of sitting like dead ducks rotting away.

At the very least, it will mean that the market is open for operators to get innovative, and attempt to make a difference. With the current situation, there are simply NO options.

We need to stop asking Telkom what they think, and what they want, and start telling them what to do, for the benefit of the entire country, and all it's citizens.

Just thinking of this makes my blood boil. ICASA and the DoC are so utterly completely pathetic and useless, I'm almost inclined to believe that even Zimbabwe's telecoms industry is more open and progressive.

Dr Dick, bandwidth prices are now at semi acceptable levels for the consumer. The major problem remaining is that the line rental is now much too big a part of the total cost of broadband. That's exactly what LLU will solve; it will drastically reduce the line rental costs for the consumer.
