I've got 3 months left on my MTN contract & wondering if they will at some point be offering the 3G iPhone?

If not, guess it's time to move back to Vodacom..... :)

my wife and i might be sent to florida in september for our anniversary is it worth while to look for an iphone overthere?

No, you'll have to pay for an AT&T contract. Even if you don't activate they start charging your credit card. Isn't it wonderful getting a new phone?

hehe....and after the iPhone it's a Macbook Air....

Apple does it different. :)

I think MTN will be losing a lot of customers.....ouch, it's gonna hurt.

I would rather have the upcoming Nokia N96 any day than the Isuck ;)

Sorry uncle rob :p

Tera, are you not tired of nokios yet?

The n96 is not bad, but i bet you there will be a better one released 2 months after you got yours and you'll feel cheated, just like all bmw drivers. :p

Can't be tired of it, since I can't afford it :p But if I could, I'd get the N96 :D ;) :p

p.s. i'm also waiting waiting for the 'nokio' n96 lol

Well i'm also at MTN about to upgrade. However i read stuff about the IPhone that they STILL for some reason do not have.

Like here:
http://boogadget.com/7-reasons-why-the-iphone-3g-still-suck

(it's only 6 reasons now, they realised the iphone 3G got a real GPS now)

Most glaring and dealbreaker for me : You can not use the Iphone as modem ! [wtf?!]

Still no MMS [not a biggie, but still annoying when messaging the less savvy people, because MMS always works, getting them to email pics ...another problem].

2MB camera....no video recording...i dunno.

THAT SAID though, i was told the Iphone 3G will retail for like R2500 .....that means Vodacom can probably offer it on a pretty cheap contract [no pay in] . So somewhere i'd say Nokia/HTC is ripping us off ;)

I'm more interested in the HTC Diamond, but they go for like R7000-R9000, which means it'll be an insane contract.

So i very might well go for the Iphone simply because it's cheap for what you get.?

Of course we're being ripped of on phones, but you're mistaken: the R2500 is a really bad guess. In the US the phone costs $200 in additon to a $40 monthly contract, so on Vodacom maybe on a Weekender with a pay-in, but definitely not R2500 all inclusive. A worthless device (what's the point without itunes?) at the same price as better devices from Sony Ericsson, Nokia, and HTC? No thanks.

The phone is going to be much more expensive than R2500, probably in the region of R7000 to R8000(without contract). They are going to be selling for $599(8G) and $699(16G) without the AT&T contract. Add another 30% or even more for shipping, customs and the other titbits, and one can see that this is not going to be a cheap phone. I don't understand how people can think that a high-end fashion phone is going to be cheaper than entry level business phone?

Remember the US is not as sophisticate a market when it comes to mobile phones as the rest of the world. They only recently moved out of the pager culture and that's why the first blackberries were such a huge hit there (but not here). It was a quantum leap forward for them. As you call it ' pager that could phone'.

Bring the iPhone and then the 3G iPhone into this market and, for the average Yank, it's like being on Star Trek.

While the iPhone is a 'must-have' fashion accessory, hopefully the next generation device will be a proper tool wit a decent keyboard, etc.

I think its only AT&T and Vodafone(some countries) thats offering it, so I doubt MTN will have it.
