Will my car be written off?

Almost all the repair parts (bonnet and bumper and such) will have to be imported since its not manufactured locally, so that will push up the repair costs. It might just just reach write off value.

Sorry your wife had to go through that. Hope she is ok.

I deal with dealerships and auto work shops daily in my business. That car will more than likely be repaired. No engine damage, more than likely no chassis damage, no airbags went off. The repair cost should be under the write off threshold.

None. Was also surprised that it did not go off.

That changes my prediction then... I thought they had.

Sadly, a human being is not enough to set off the sudden-deceleration censors of air bags, it seems. l do hope insurance will give you what you wish. Although check your insurance carefully - just because it is insured for a certain value does not mean you will get it. Also, there is often a 5% shortfall that you have to cover anyway.

So sorry to hear that, glad your wife is okay.

I believe they will repair, the damage is not as bad as it looks. No chassis deformation, no airbag went off, no engine damage. I've seen a worse damaged car get repaired and it was insured for around R180K

Wishing your wife and family all the best.

Firstly glad the wife is of but yep she'll need special attention and understanding from this horrible incident.
Difficult to judge but it doesn't look bad.
The main things are airbags which didn't go off.
Unfortunately I think you might be in for quite a wait for the vehicle to be repaired unless you in luck and they can source parts from a downer vehicle etc, and yes they can and do do that.
Be sure to sign an AOL (agreement of Loss) only after you are 100% satisfied with the repair.

Hmmm it's very hit and miss hey.

A friend's wife crashed her Honda Jazz the other day and it looked much less hectic than that.

I guesstimated it would be repaired, yet it got written off.

So best to just wait for the assessor and see what happens, if they don't volunteer to write it off then motivate that they do for the emotional trauma.

Especially if it's already quite close it shouldn't be too hard.

Otherwise, repair and sell.

Honda is crazy with their pricing on replacement parts.

My previous car was written off by my insurance despite suffering minor cosmetic damage. Something about the undercarriage costing too much to fix. It drove perfectly fine, although I must admit the silhouette of the vehicle from the back and front looked slightly off. I replaced it with a Honda Jazz, so everything worked out in the end.

Insurance tried to pay out R20k. Only when my old man got involved and threatened to move his company's insurance away from them did they revise their offer to R60k. Would have had a serious problem if not for that.

Although that crash would likely have had structural damage. Your "guestimates" are nothing to bet money on, neh.

A relative hit a pedestrian in an Audi a few years back. Bumper was not physically deformed but needed a respray, small dent in the bonnet and smashed windscreen and a-pillar. Repair quote was R87k

Had a look at some of the other pics I have.

Bumper is cracked in the centre so def needs to be replaced. Bonnet to be replaced. The front fenders on either side shifted slightly to the back and the brackets came loose. Radiator and aircon also to be replaced. Assessor to give info on any structural or mechanical damage not visible, if any. The last part will give a better indication if it will be written off.

If there is a dent in the roof frame holding the windscreen then yes. No matter what the repair cost is. This is due to "structural integrity"

None. Was also surprised that it did not go off.

Airbags have 2 sensors. 1 in the seatbelt unit, another in the headlights.

There is no damage to the headlights and since she didn't exert any if at all force on the seat belt due to the impact it also won't go off.

Only write off if the damage exceeds 70% of the cars value.
Actually it varies between 50-70% depending on type and where damage is. This is how the umbrella company works and most follow.

I'm glad that your wife is OK, however, as far as writing the car off - I don't think so, not after looking at the pics - obviously it could be different with a physical check.

If you don't want the car after it is fixed, that is just fine, but really, to write off a car for what appears to be a bonnet, windscreen and possibly A/C is excessive.

Fix it an sell it if that's what you want, but don't write it off.
