Although its been around for some time, Internationally the tiny house movement trend has picked popularity in the last couple of years with more people considering the minimalist, clutter free, small footprint living. Shipping containers are also used to convert into a tiny home.

Will you consider living in a tiny-house?

Would love to provided it was in a safe area and doors/ windows could stay open all day and all night.

You ask a yes/no question without the optional answer, "Yes".

I have always stayed in small places. I love it. I have a knack of giving my home that flare that makes it appear far bigger than it actually is.

I stayed in a tiny flat a few years ago, hated every second of it.

Another bonus of a small place is you can clean the whole thing in an hour. Properly. Also low maintenance...don't wanna spend my weekends working on the house, mowing the lawn etc. Easy to lock up & go. Grew up in a house, but prefer apartment life now. Would be happy with a tiny house in the woods somewhere.

Smallest flat i stayed in was 19 square metres, living in there on my own for almost 2 years, loved it
Apartment now for last 10 years is 9x9 metres and feels like a mansion

i have 2 autonomous vacuum cleaners that go out each morning on my wooden floors so thats a massive bonus to cleaning, i only mop the floors once a year

Wife, two kids, two great danes, and a cat... nope.

Sounds like something you couldn't live without.

R200 000. My system cost R20 000
One lithium battery cost me more than R20 000

You get what you WANT or PAY FOR. Below systems adequate but love my system.

One of the big issues with the tiny house movement is that it is billed as a move for the “financially smart” people who want to live debt free, but in reality, it’s going to create a group of people who will be more likely to eventually retire without the “forced savings/investment” of a larger property.

I have been watching YouTubers for the last 2 years doing this crazy stuff and i dig it. I myself will probably never do it, but i like watching those that do

Yeah, it looks so cool. The appeal is great, low maintenance, something “new” to live in, etc.

What they don’t mention is that the house will be worth close to zero in 10-15 years of use, and the property they’re on is almost always rented. It also tends to select for those people who consider putting money aside for a bond payment to be too restrictive for their lifestyle.

I know a few people in the US who have done this - most only stick it out for 2-5 years. They don’t really consider the reality of having a toilet right by where they eat and sleep - especially when they’re single, and then one day aren’t. :p Not to mention what happens if they have kids or need to work from home.
