If I lived on a big piece of ground, I'd want a big house. I need space to feel comfortable.

I'm more attracted by the concept of minimalism and reducing your possessions than I am about the idea of living in a shoebox.

I'm in the process of downsizing, but not extremely tiny though. I've managed to fit everything I need into less than 100m2. It looks extremely small from the street as it sits on a huge plot, but it still feels spacious inside (maybe because it's still empty though ).

I like the idea of downsizing in stuff. The building doesn't have to he super tiny as in container size. But having more space and less stuff sounds awesome. Add to it a big plot. Perfect.

I`d attach them together and live in 5 tiny houses, each one being a room on it's own. The more tiny houses the better.

I don't have a big house anyway. Would be comfy AF to live on a smallholding in a downsized house. But I would go for a proper mobile home, not something built from a shipping container.

Back in the day, my dad had a mobile home at the sailing club. It was a bit cramped at first, but once we built a nice big stoep for it, it was lovely. Then I would get a shipping container or two to make a workshop.

How come I stayed on a WWII destroyer or how come you have to get out of bed to turn over?
WW2 destroyer and which one British, US, German, Japanese??

Taiwanese aka Republic of China. Part of national service - they sent a few ships to our docks and I stayed on one while mostly escorting their brass around CT and buying booze to fill the cargo hold LOL.
Cool, what was it's name if you remember? Wanna check it's history, as the Taiwanese normally get old American ships.

I have been ling small apartments for the last 6 or 7 years. The only I miss is a piece of nature where I can sit and braai and get some sun.
It's actually not the size of the yard I mind so much, it's having to mow. Gimme a giant house on giant land and I'll pave the entire yard.

I'm leaving most of my plot natural. It's nice seeing all the bushbuck, porcupines and other critters coming to visit. Only the top part of the plot and the area around the house will be lawn.

I'm obsessed with the idea of a tiny house but reality is it would never work for me with a family and all the junk I have.
I like to watch the videos because they show all the clever use of space and innovative furniture.

I think at best I would have a cabin or beach house that is a tiny house then have those holidays where you take nothing and escape all the trappings of life.
I suppose also if we did go overseas I might do the opposite and have a small house in the city and then escape to the country every weekend with a big old farm house.

After 5 years of living in a small house, I say the following :

1. It can be done
2. If you're a packrat, forget it.
3. You have to be really, really strict about keeping the place clean, it clutters up very quickly.
4. If you have kids, rather reconsider this and go for a larger house.

Protip - have a 5000l or 10000l water tank with strong pump (petrol) and hoses for firefighting purposes standing by at all times, because a veld fire is something you do not want... believe me.
Been there done that, two veld fires so far, and each time we were prepared beforehand.
