It is such a small and cramped little space, not even optimized for "tiny house" living. It speaks almost of poverty and desperation and having no choice in where you live and trying to create a little green space or life in a concrete jungle, hanging on by a thread. It is probably not, but you wanted to know why I feel sad when watching it. Reminds me of the days we used to live in a garage.
Wanted to watch it again before replying and then forgot until now. I agree. My fixation and what I enjoyed was the upstairs space, stairway, tree and how it let the open air in. The house as a whole is very poor use of space.

How plausible is this concept actually in SA? Considering factors such as safety, cost of land, location etc.

In terms of parking somewhere randomly on a farm, I guess as save as anything you put on a farm.

Some people sub divide their properties and put on a tiny house and then rent out the house.

Personally I see no real investment in a tiny house as they are usually temporary and depreciate in value. So more like a gimmick for someone who has money to throw away.

But the way we live now in tiny flats and wendy houses, we are not far from calling it tiny houses anyways.

A lot safer than people realise. There are thousands of South Africans living like this in rural areas and on commercial property/industrial sites. What you will find is the safety is from living as a tribe so you will find them keeping their movable dwellings (caravans/Wendy homes) close together.

These little tribal villages are mostly hidden from the public as they don't trust strangers. There is probably a whole tribal psychology around this way of living.

Granted is was mid to late 90s, but I've visited and lived amongst these folk and I always felt safe. Some places are trash dumps, others are little Narvanas with good people.

I was actually thinking about this thread the other day. These tiny house designs give you ideas on how to use your space more efficiently

We stayed here a few weeks back, in this exact unit:

It's 2 side by side long containers, and I must say, the design is perfect. Granted that the patio is almost the same size as the unit, it would be a cheap add-on.

I could live in a space like this, especially on a farm or other large open space. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a lounge.

Looks nice!
