From February Whatsapp users will be presented with a choice... agree to share their data with the Facebook et al, or stop using Whatsapp. What are your plans? Will you stop using WhatsApp, or does it not concern you? Will you seek out an alternative or have you found one already?

they already know what you're doing .... just do a Google search on say speakers .... then go to FB marketplace and suddenly speaker recommendations pops up everywhere :p

You think this was for free? You become the commodity that is sold.

When they introduce ads I'll think of jumping ship.

When is that day coming, surprised not yet or are they just biding their time waiting for whatsap to be deeply entrenched with huge market share before they run ads?

People still going bonkers over this. I have to ask what specific case-scenario are you afraid of?

From an e-commerce direction I believe Facebook is on the ball here.

Deleted and uninstalled it yesterday. I am now full-time on telegram. If you are not on telegram and you know me, then we will not communicate via social media.

Strictly speaking it is manifested in WeChat, some here used to rave about the voucher implementations.

Does WeChat still require an “invite” before you can create an account? Deleted my original one a long time ago and that’s apparently the process now.

Pushing people to move off whatsapp, but have a feeling I am going to have to just abandon whatsapp and the people who still use it and refuse to make a move can just use SMS to get hold of me

I have a couple of work related groups that are on WhatsApp so I'll stick with it until everyone eventually migrates.

Basically, most people in SA still use WhatsApp so it will be a while before someone takes over from it.

No, sign up and go. I don't use it, don't have it, don't need it. I will however continue to use WA Business and WhatsApp as I believe that Facebook Pay may bear fruit, and may be a useful tool for improving the customer experience.

I’ve wanted to get rid of it years ago already because it’s a kak app more than anything else.

This will hopefully push adoption organically without me needing to force people over to other things and then I can just get rid of it.

I am inclined to leave a status message and then delete the app and see what happens.

How does one draw the conclusion that WhatsApp is kak?

Moving to Telegram, started notifying folks that if they want to contact me, to use Telegram, when I get to the point that the important contacts have moved, will uninstall.

Telegram is annoying. It notifies everyone that you’ve joined the first time you use it.
