If DSTV Now was priced at R500 I might actually consider it, but R819 is extortionate.
 
Feel like DSTV missed a trick here. If they had charged R500-R600 per month for streaming only with maybe 2 logins, they would have lost some premium subscribers paying over R800 per month when moving over to the streaming version, but would have gained a helluva lot more compact and compact plus (or whatever its called now) subscribers who would gladly pay the extra R100-R200 for the entire package.

Yeah, it looks like this is something they are being forced to do without really believing in it. They clearly are scared of losing their satellite customers to streaming which is why the pricing looks like it does...

Very short-sighted IMO.
 
I would bet that this doesn't have PVR functionality. It will be live all the time. Which means that you won't have the option to skip over all their adverts telling you how much value you are getting for their service.

I don't think so, just a choice to get it that way. If someone wants to change to a satellite decoder I'm sure no problem.

Is it worth it?
No. Been connected for decades, series hardly appeal anymore and clearly not just me who feels that.
But I have it 'cos someone else is paying and I find it easier than streaming all over the place for movies, plus get some wanted sport.

So basically the stream only version is the same price as premium but you can watch on one less device.
Too bad BBC Britt isnt available on catchup , my folks could save R100 cancelling Xtra View

And in typical MyBB fashion don't forget you're required to add the cost of internet when comparing streaming prices to satellite.

Main reason for the Streama option could be a cheap decoder, they've done that before.

There's 2 decoders for multiparty streaming options, fairly sure the Streama is without PVR but the Ultra does offer it. Can't say if Netflix etc. can be recorded though, does anyone else know?

Has tech specs and a link to similar for the Ultra:

Where can I compare the premium catalogue to the US and SA netflix catalogues? I would have to compare what I pay for netflix + VPN to premium cost and take offering into account.

Why would anyone want to record on demand streaming? Surely the benefit is that you watch what you want when you want? Is the dstv thing not built as a proper streaming service? Is it actually their satellite version over a different medium, so you still are pinned with what they say when they say?
