As you know some of that is going on now, although it's far from good enough... which I think is your point.

There's the separate movies add-on, and the sport-via-Showmax-Plus.

The first one - initially it included for EasyView, then they tried to sneak that cheap option away but in my case I made a huge fuss with them and got 3 months free in the end

The second one - only soccer etc., no wanted sport, as some see it anyway.

Both. Why would you want an access fee for streaming? You pay that to use the recording facility on the PVR.

No, just a cheap decoder involved. Those wanting to later go to the satellite option as well just need to change their decoder AFAIK.

Sop, you mean even less reason to get this dstv crap? I never have issues with buffering on netflix or prime or espn or youtube and my fibre link is way less than 100mbps.

DSTV Now used to be very sketchy, must admit, I watched Chasing the Sun recently in HD and had no problems with drop outs - a lot better than it used to be.

Could also be crappy ISP's that have huge contention ratios or just completely oversold their product (do I feel rain drops?)

Some of it, sure.

This is actually a subject that was very well discussed on the DStv forum years back. Most of the issues were their internal politics interfering with practical tech needs, as I understood it anyway.
It has improved a lot. But there's still many complaints anyway.

Why would anyone want to record on demand streaming? Surely the benefit is that you watch what you want when you want? Is the dstv thing not built as a proper streaming service? Is it actually their satellite version over a different medium, so you still are pinned with what they say when they say?

If DSTV Now was priced at R500 I might actually consider it, but R819 is extortionate.

I feel the same way, they can't really price a streaming service like this for more than R499. Even if they have to cut some stuff out there should be at least be something that's at the price.

Content is far better than what I noticed on Netflix S.A. when I looked. I'm sure not for the US version, unless you're considering wider demographics than those more typically here.

I think pricing is more to do with the bad exchange rate now, and some stubborn remaining greed as well probably.

EDIT: Would I pay for Premium if I couldn't get it anymore? Not now, they've lost too much quality.

I don't, directly, but one could probably using a VPN/Smart DNS service. Going to finish making my FireTV stick domiciled in the UK. Then I will try a direct sub.
