These will be separate networks, so 100 is actually not too bad. Would be interesting to see how many towers each networks has though. Suspect most of them are tire-kicking networks.

The author of this article would do well to read up on the work done by the 3GPP group. Some of his assumptions on LTE seems not so well informed.

The infighting in and between the .16 and .20 groups led to the delay of a stable WiMax specification. 3GPP have been in the game of hardening specs for many years (look how quickly UMTS got adopted worldwide) and this will most likely happen with LTE as well.
 
100 separate networks, and most likely (from my experience) will be around 200 to 300 base stations each.

When the big monopolistic rip off networks start calling the smaller independents names like "tire-kickers" (sic) and assuming their limited coverage I suppose they are worried about something.
Before I chose to go with Screamer's WiMax I checked out their coverage and they already have in excess of 150 towers installed. Their WiMAX pricing is about 20% of what Vodacon/iBurps are charging (see I can also call names) and their speed and latencies are far superior to what I had on a 3G network.
The proof of this telecoms pudding is going to be our (the clients) experiences are and not the technical misinformation the various Telecom companies PR depts spit out.

Wow, you got out the wrong side this morning. :rolleyes:

It's a well known fact that a number of test licenses were issued and the networks built test WiMax networks. That's what 'tire-kicking' implies, testing the waters. Maybe you don't know the meaning of the phrase? And often these were just a few towers, BTW.

So, please show where I said it was the 'smaller independent networks' and in any derogatory way?

BTW, do you include MTN, MWEB, etc. in that definition?

And lastly, for your education: Nothing wrong with "tire": http://www.thefreedictionary.com/tire

/added/ Just read through your 42 posts to try and understand why you're so aggressive, and noticed that nearly every single post you made is an ad for Screamer. Nothing wrong in itself, but maybe try and get some consistency going. I noticed the product you use from them seems to vary from post to post and sometimes it's yours and sometimes your "friend's". ;) :)

Nope .........

In aviation circles "tyre-kicking" is a derogatory term for doing a less than useful pre-flight inspection -- goes together with a "portuguese run-up"

Beating on someone with TYRE irons can become quite a tiresome tirade

Someone who is indecisive about purchasing a product or service, and never feels satisfied with what they are offered. In the end a tire kicker may or may not buy.

Not really interested in "engineering-samples" and was really looking for an SA outlet -- my Cantonese / Mandarin is not so hot :D

All the big American Capitalist companies get the R&D together and then EVERYTHING gets manufactured in China's "Free Economic Zones" ( Hong Hong being one of these )

Some custom firmware is installed -- & -- voila we now have an IBM , DELL , HP , ACER , TOSHIBA etc etc Just like network locking :mad:

The actual manufacturer -- INTEL , SIERRA , NOVATEL , ERICSSON all wipe their hands of these devices and tell you to contact the OEM installer ( see above )


So miserably pathetic :mad:
