I refer you to an article on mybroadband.co.za named: WiMax spectrum conundrum, dated 29 July 2009. To be found at the following link: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Wireless/8980.html
I for one am very disturbed that the CEO of Screamer Telecoms has not been forthcoming about what Wimax Spectrum they are making use of and if their business is legitimate.
Through this communication with ICASA, I am not asking of the regulator to become a journalist and inquire with Sentech and Screamer Telecoms - but I would ask of the regulator to please investigate the claims and to report back to myself and the public at large the outcome with regard to which spectrum has been allocated to Screamer Telecoms.
As we all know, spectrum is a rare commodity and very expensive.
I and many others find it reprehensible that a telecoms operator may allegedly be making use of spectrum which has not been allocated to them and in so doing, may have been operating illegally and that they are placing their customers at risk.
I would appreciate a reference number and feedback with regards to an investigation in this matter.
It does not bode well for our country which already has so many negatives it faces; to have an operator allegedly doing business illegally in a sector of the market which requires foreign investment.
Potential investors could surely look upon this matter;
the article
the lack of follow up from Screamer's CEO
the lack of investigation by the regulator,
as a sign of a lack of transparency and effective regulation by the regulator.
I urge you to please look into this and communicate the relevant (hopefully transparent) results of the investigation into Screamer Telecoms to myself and the rest of this country in a timely fashion.
Yours sincerely

What ever happened with this story?
I see that Screamer still advertises their Wimax products and we yet have to get a response fromt their CEO.
The ICASA vs WBS story that just broke, got me thinking of this again.
