Just trying to get myself a decent version of Win 7 without having to break the bank.

Who's bought their WIN 7? I tried the WIN 7 eternity, but my monitor kept flicking on and off? Weird, maybe just needed an update?
Anyone got any advice? PM me.

Windows 7 Pro should be more than enough for all needs!

this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/compare may help you with your decision.

x64--will harness all the power your CPU and RAm; you will lose very little--you can use all x86 (32-bit) on x64 (installs in Program Files (x86) folder. If you have software that is sticky and only likes XP, then download Windows XP Mode fro Windows 7 and run your programs in virtual machine. Win7 is a keeper!

Unless you need access to domains for any advanced networking/security features then home premium should be fine. For a gamer/multimedia user its perfect. I got the retail edition, running the 64 bit version.

cool, home premium is fairly cheap too

will it allow:

I would like to use x64, access > 4GB RAM and play some decent games, incl wireless networking etc

For the built in media centre you need Ultimate :-) well worthh it if you use the add-in software available on the 'net for free. Remote control about R250 and off you go....

Home Premium also has media centre, and at a fraction of the price.

Yeah, and the Win7 Media Centre is way better than the one in Vista Ultimate.

It even works with my ancient USB TV Tuner - I was quite surprised at that, now I can watch cricket while busy on the PC.
