I'm so sorry—love, backstreetboy. God forgive me.
Winamp is getting closer to release with a redesigned website, logo, and a new beta signup allowing users to soon test the upcoming version of the media player.

Before we streamed our music, users would rip their albums or download MP3s to listen on their computer using media players.

One of the most popular media players to play MP3s was Winamp, with its retro skins and animated visualizers that moved along with the music you were playing. However, Winamp had not seen any further development after its version 5.666 release in 2013.

In October 2018, after Winamp 5.8 was leaked online, the developers decided to publish the leaked version on their website Winamp.com to allow everyone to use it in all its nostalgic glory. Unfortunately, while Radionomy, the owners of Winamp, said they had big plans for Winamp, no further versions have been released since then.

The only new Winamp development we have seen has been by the Winamp Community Update Project (WACUP ) who released Preview version 1.0.21.7236 with bug fixes and improvements.

Eh... It would need to compete against MusicBee.

Not to mention the many others which are open-source, and some which are endorsed by the audiophile community.

Big competition, and the user experience would need to be groundbreaking...

Now with android marketplaces becoming readily available on Windows 11, it is only going to get tougher.

Winamp was/still is a mediocre performer, it had flaws which is why I use what the audiophiles use. As a lover of music, and listening to a lot of it during the long work days, I found out long ago that Winamp leads to listener fatigue, and has problems playing back files encoded by specific CODECs and with very specific sounds/harmonics present. I stopped using it a long time ago already... eh... like 10 years ago...

Winamp has been coming up a lot recently in this forum

Why? I mean do people still have hordes of MP3s?

That makes me think I have some nice paid for Android audio apps, without Google play services on your Win 11 pc how would your app license be verfied by the app?

There are methods to install the Google Play Store, but I am certain that native Google Play Services integration is coming.

Winamp teases a completely overhauled app, invites beta testers

It looks like one of themost popular music players from the olden days is coming back. The new Winamp promises a completely overhauled experience and to be something more than a music player. Because after all, who's still listening to offline music only?

The website welcomes you with a new Winamp logo, which looks more in line with the modern flat design language and talks about the opportunity for fans to connect with artists. The app will also let users stream online radios and podcasts.

It all sounds like Winamp is trying to make a music-centric social network of sorts. And in case you find the concept interesting, you can sign up to be a beta tester and all it requires is your name and email address.
