I regularly get people bringing me their laptops for updating and I am absolutely horrified at all the cr@p that gets installed on PCs. So I make it clear every time that I will only take on the task of cleaning up the PC if the owner agrees that ALL third party sw will be deleted and only sw that I have vetted will be re-installed afterwards. This process works every time.

Glad to see I am not the only one.

When I| eventually got the system to boot to desktop at 2am this morning, I installed bitdefender 2018 from bitdefender central - what did windows do after that? It updated itself and - wait for this - deleted the whole bitdefender installation... :wtf:
Ignore other suggestions and go back to Win7 as you said. It happens many times and it will happen again. Lets Microsoft fight with bitdefender on other user machines. I gave up with Microsoft more than one year ago when I discovered that GP settings blocking automatic updates is ignored. It is a key issue Microsoft need to adjust before I will ever consider to use win10 again.

Yup, no point in discussing the hours on the phone with Microsoft advanced support here....the new updates are buggy. All was fine just peachy a week ago. And then thud.

Perhaps Win10 is ransomware itself...if it can simply delete the latest version of Bitdefender IS 2018. Which is the worlds top performing AV software.
