Windows 10 Technical Preview - Insider Program

Not ISP issues? MS updates are classified as P2P for some reason.

No, for a while Windows Update on 10 was borked, and it would download all the updates at the same time from multiple Akami servers. I wasn't on the build that was affected, but I did see someone on Overclock.net, I think, complaining about it.

My build 10162 refuses to Activate itself - most frustrating.

The prerelease keys no longer activates new installs (all the previous builds including the latest one, 10240). It doesn't matter since all the Insiders will get Windows 10 (launch day build) tomorrow. Just wait.

Woohoo! My genuine Win8.1 PC's now downloading full fat genuine Windows 10 Pro (C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources) in the background :D It will be automatically installed at 12AM tonight. Can't wait.

EDIT: Windows 10 pro x64 setup files in Sources folder is around 3gb (Pre-allocated) in size.

How do you know whether it's downloading in the background?

What is the version number under Setup.exe?

both have been updated

You do realise that we're still three months away from the "real" release of Win 10? The Threshold project has for ages been geared to an October 2015 GA. Some time early in the new year Nadella decided they've got to shoot for Back to School (a huge seasonal driver of new PC sales in USA), and Threshold was split into a two-step release, one tomorrow and the "missing bits" in October 2015. This is possible because of the new WaaS model, which is just another way of saying "ongoing updates, new features & functions, etc released as we finish 'em". ;)

Insiders remain part of the testing and debugging process for future enhancements, and in the latter part of August we should start seeing some Threshold II bits.

This staged release is nice for us. We get a pretty stable release now (10240) some months before originally planned, so an early leg up into the new platform.

Interesting :D Guess I have to keep my Win10 Insider build on my PC.

Uh, my Sources folder size just grew to 4GB now.

Please, I hope Microsoft has given me the full version of Windows 10 Pro, and that it will not tell me I need to upgrade from the preview builds. I came from Windows 7 Home Premium... #wishfulThinking :D

Sleep easy. You won't be schnaai'd. Home versions of 7 and 8 will get the Home version of 10. Win 7 Pro/Ult will get Win 10 Pro.

Microsoft has basically dropped Windows Media Center, so if you need that as in Win 7 Ult you've basically been out of luck since Win8.

You'll get exactly what you expect to get. The right upgrade for what you have. No tricks. No gotchas. To get a free upgrade you must upgrade in the next 12 months. After that, upgrading from Win7/8 might cost you something, or it mght not (ie it's undecided). But once you upgrade, you have it for the supported life of the device with no further charges. And ongoing updates. Like previous Win versions, Win10 will be supported for ten years (which is ridiculously long, in my view).

It also worked on "un-official copies" but whether it works in the next few days remains to be seen..

I'm literally watching my c:\$windows.~BT\Sources folder fill up with Windows 10 goodness

Rully? I've found a bunch of folders starting with 'amd64_microsoft-windows-gwx' in C:\Windows\WinSxS

Could that also be Win 10 preloading?
