Just installed 10162 built on my main computer, it was delayed due to the hard drive space.
It doesn't activate anymore, keys are blacklisted. Switched to MS account, no difference, just it doesn't allow to enter a new key anymore.
However it has the same functionality and expiry date as activated copy - 02 Ocrober. So question is what a hell is a difference? Maybe Arthur will give us some idea?

All pre-release product keys published earlier for builds of Windows 10 Insider Preview have been deactivated and will no longer activate any Preview builds, including Build 10240. This will not impact any devices that were activated in the past using those product keys.

We hope Insiders will continue to test Build 10240, which is only intended to be installed as an upgrade from a previously-activated version of Windows 10 Insider Preview – we do not support clean installs of Windows 10240. Windows 10 is intended to be installed on Genuine Windows devices, whether devices in the Windows Insider Program or those taking advantage of the free upgrade offer.

We’re getting really close to the launch of Windows 10, and we’re looking to receive that final bit of feedback before we roll out the finished product!

I get it. They clearly don't want more computers on the insider program. It is probably because they want to offload their WEB servers on (and around) the BigBang release date. I remember that they promised for insiders clean installation ISO for download later, it will be a time to update this computer as well.

Backing up my previous desktop. Whoooow, Windows XP is running much faster! :)

Hehe. I had the same issue on a new install and had to search to find out why. Makes sense now in the days before GA. Had to install 8.1 instead and will wait for the upgrade on that box.

Btw, I left Microsoft seventeen years ago. ;)

Quoting again, as this is important for everybody on metered connection (most of us). Be careful, as Microsoft employed torrents-type update system which can turn your PC into update server over Internet! There is an option you must turn off:
"Get updates from Microsoft, and get updates from and send updates to"
- PC on my local network, and PC on the Internet

Are you sure? I've been on the builds since 9926 and I've never seen any upload activity on my machine while using the default setting and getting new updates. Microsoft would never seed updates over the internet using a Torrent-like system, that would be a terrible idea. Local LAN is there, yes, but the other idea would be just plain dumb.

I read it little bit, it is a volume licence activation mechanism using XSPACE server (designed for Windows 8 enthusiasts) :)
As far I am concern, it will work on any machine (irrespectively to OEM licensing in BIOS).

Well from the Windows Insider, I am turning into an Windows 10 'enthusiast'.

I was supposed to receive final release as promised. It turns out that it will be not permanent activation, but subject to periodic renewal. I cannot afford 4GB downloads on my 3G connection for longer period. Microsoft solution might be acceptable in countries with modern Internet infrastructure, in South Africa it is available to a few.

@Arthur, Microsoft do not care about under-developed countries and Windows 10 Insider Program made false promises, giving legitimate XP/Vista users hope.

Kms is for enterprises that have a Microsoft volume licencing agreement. It is against the terms and conditions to expose a kms server outside of your intranet.
This kms server is not for "enthusiasts", its for pirates.

FYI.

just tried this, and now i'm locked out of my PC. just a black screen. no login, no nothing. help me :(

Youch... it worked fine for me running 10240_x64 build.

Perhaps force Windows to give you the advanced boot menu... (power off during boot a couple of times on PC or pull battery on laptop) and then select command prompt and run sfc /scannow.

This should restore the Windows.UI.Logon.pri file.

I see on MDL forum that a recent Windows update has changed things... and there is another version of the file on the last page to download and try.

I will download and see if this works OK after the latest Win 10 update.

EDIT:

The version in the 1st Post does nothing but crash with an error... the Windows 10 update has broken something.

However...

I have just tried the version from this post;

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/th...d-to-GitHub!?p=1094288&viewfull=1#post1094288

and it is working perfectly for me... no errors and login changes with no side-effects.

Thanks, found the standard Windows.UI.Logon.pri elsewhere, copied that across after booting with install USB via command prompt.

but, i did use the one you linked to. and it seems to be working just perfectly. thanks!

I am just relieved that you are up and running again.

I dunno what Microsoft was thinking with that "Hero" wallpaper and login screen... does not go with the whole "flat" design of 10... like a Vista throwback.. eeeeyeew... and just does not work as a login screen at all and on any resolution.

Wait for release date, it can happen soon. Seeding mechanism is here and is enabled by default. When MS servers are overloaded they might activate it. They have already hundred thousand Insider computers around the globe ready for seeding...
A reason I think about is because ISO is not available for download anymore and will not activate Windows, but it will be available later. They must worry about their servers capacity. Better turn off this option now.

I agree. However I always had an impression that Microsoft use pirates in critical moments to gain momentum. By example: instrucions how to do it are posted on the site which is also a host for official ISO images. I say 'official', as links to these images are posted on the Royalty OEM websites.
In this case, Microsoft could change volume licensing server technology to cut such abuse in Windows 10, apparently but they didn't. It is why I call them Windows 'enthusiasts', not a pirates. They do work for Microsoft after all...

I dunno man. With Azure, Amazon and Akami servers in the mix, I think they're pretty set for bandwidth requirements. However I did see someone somewhere a while ago complain about Windows 10 updates being slow. Looking in resource monitor, it was pulling multiple files down from the Akami servers.
