Let's face it, Windows 8 was a total disaster for Microsoft. I cannot remember reading about one company that actually decided to take the plunge and upgraded their whole network to Windows 8. No sir, they all stayed put on Windows 7 Pro.

And Microsoft alienated some customers who moved over to OS X or Linux as their OS of choice.

But I firmly believe Windows 10 will be the consumer OS that saves Microsoft and really bring them back with a bang.

Our whole company is running on windows 8.1 and no problems there. :)

We are a small company, +-40 laptops, few desktops, some windows phones used for support and some ms-surfaces. Majority was moved over 2 years ago

you guys just have to realise that sometimes kingrob lives in his own little world where only things he say are true or make sense.

That's quite an expensive investment, especially when Windows 7 is still running perfectly well.

And retraining all staff....wow, they must have a lot of cash to burn! And now Windows 10 is around the corner. :)

So glad I'm not the IT manager who made the call. :p

If you've done your homework, you would know that none of the big companies, i.e. Dell, migrated to Windows 8.

Which is embarrassing, cos they say on their web site they recommend Windows 8, but their own company is running on Windows 7.

I don't expect you to understand it, it's fine.

Have you eaten less today?
 
That said, KR, everyone knew well beforehand that enterprise would in any case give Win8 a skip, whatever form it took. It's just they way enterprise works. Most were some way down their plans to migrate from XP to W7 anyway, and would not delay or defer because of Win8 even it was pure magic. The non-adoption has nothing to do with Win8 and it is mistaken to read anything into it.

But then I'm sure you know that already.

This was endlessly discussed in the run-up to Win8, also on these very forums.

Sure.

Longhorn was going to the Next Big Thing, the most exciting thing MSFT had ever done since OS/2. Anti-trust woes and all sorts of other issues defocused the company and what appeared was Vista, a failure.

Win7 was Vista cleaned up.

Enterprises were long overdue for a client refresh. Win7 was it.

The enterprise move to W10 will only get underway in 2016 or 2017.
