Windows 10: The Next Chapter

Got high CPU usage since upgrading my XPS 15. Fans are spinning high continuously with an average of 40% to 55% CPU usage.

Main hogs are...
Host process for windows tasks
Service Host (Local System)
Microsoft Windows Search Filter

Sigh... Time to fiddle.

I got exactly this.... let me know what you find

Ye - it's annoying. I am trying to code, and my machine has odd quick stutters because of it. And this with a 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM. Not used to this.

Did a quick Google. The search indexer is definitively playing a big role here. I paused it and usage dropped to an average of 30%. Still high - but better.
It was suggested to just leave your machine and let it do it's thing. Quite a few people reported that it settles down after a few days. Will see...

My machine stays on 24 seven :wtf:

The only issue I am having is the notifications just coming one after the other, when I restart my PC, like of all events that had happened before the restart.

Windows Explorer seems to freeze up when I open my Video's folder.

Yep, the notifications section still need a lot of work.

I see in Updates you can now choose the update branch you would like to use.

lol - awesome1501 - someone has a sense of humor there :)

Indeed!

I wonder what difference a different update branch will make, because you can already choose if you want the latest updates (fast) or more stable (slow)?

Stable will lag behind fast by about a week before getting the latest builds. Same build, just released once they have updates out to fix the major issues with the build.

I think I'll stick with slow, as it saves a bit on the bandwidth. :)

Same here. Guess based on the 9935 update, that Windows 10 will be awesome! :D

Must still install 10 on my main machine, but it's working great on my laptop!

Won't save any bandwidth, you'll still get the same build as on the fast path, just with updates available through normal Windows Update to fix some issues.

So after my fourth attempt I got Windows 10 installed successfully,
for some reason was hanging for almost an hour each time on the "Getting Ready" screen
However the speed of this Windows 10 does make up for it :P, it's flipping fast - offhand the only thing I noticed that was different
The same style 8.1 tiles theme is still there :-/
and the folder icons are hideous! Haven't really noticed anything else different just yet.....
