Windows 10: when you can upgrade, how long it will take

I think it is everything in windows related folders, like program files. if you had, for example, a game installed, you will have to reinstall it.

Do you have the 32bit or 64 bit version installed?

I have the 64-bit version running on my work PC with the stated minimum of 2 GB of RAM currently and it runs just fine....

Its the 32bit version. You literally cannot use it as the mouse gets stuck for like 10 seconds then its moveable for a second or so, etc.

Partnered with that is that fact that the machine would go modal with a a third of the screen turning blue and then within this blue area it states "Your system needs more memory" - its probably not the verbatim message :)

Point is, Windows 10 does not work on a machine with 1 gig of RAM

Nope. You will be able to download an iso image & do a clean install in future if you upgraded to 10, you have to however upgrade to 10 first.

In another thread Incredible Connection will be assisting their customers with the upgrade. I remember people making all sorts of snide comments about this but from the questions on this thread it might be a good offer for those eligible customers unsure about how to upgrade.

Apologies I misread your post, you are actually correct wrt furpiles scenario..

In furpiles case he cannot do a clean install, he has to upgrade to get Win 10, he can't simply install it from scratch and get a license for it or use an old win7 license. Once upgraded though he will be able to do a clean install on the same device in future.

That is not possible, you have to upgrade first.

Thanks Ponder. So worst case I upgrade my PC to Win10, download the ISO and reinstall on the new SSD. That is manageable, although not ideal.

From what I remember in that article, that only applies if you bought your PC from them.
 
Any idea why Windows 7 Enterprise has been left out? I've already done a reservation on my personal laptop but the app is not there on W7E.

Enteprise editions use volume licensing. Your IT admin would be best to inform you the what's and the why not's. Perhaps they disabled it or hadn't sent out the updates over the network.

Maybe because enterprise is left up to the organisation to roll out (speculation), enterprise is also the only version where you will be able to disable updates.

Yeah, sad that I leave here just before I windows 10 release, else could have gotten it on my uncles 1 Gbps connection :(
Overseas city internet is so much better.
 
If you feel you should be getting the Win 10 upgrade icon, but it is missing, this is a long shot, but take a quick peak under notification options, ie click 'customise' on the icon area,

or go to : Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons

If you see an entry there entitled GWX, that's 'get windows 10' and you need to set it to appear in the tray, ie select 'show icon and notifications'.
