Windows 11 Support Thread

Interesting observation.

My machine doesn't support TPM, so Im still doing the whole bypass thing, but it's definitely running faster than win10 even with an mechanical HDD attached.

If it ever comes to the point where I'll have to switch to new hardware with TPM, I will replace all drives with Nvme and hopefully not have your problem

Part of my problem is that my OneDrive is huge, and I have a reasonably sized plex library, so I will need some sort of NAS/media server and then at least another 1tb for other stuff in my main machine.
I just wished the price of cheap SATA SSDs would drop. I only have 2 m.2 slots and want to get a PCIe 4.0 drive for that in future.

Installed and activated a few over the last few months, but didn't have issues with MS accounts. What problem did you pick up?
Bought this one.
Microsoft Office 2021 Professional - Electronic Software Delivery - Emailed Link, Download Only, 1 User/1 PC

Even though it has a serial key it asks to log into Microsoft account to activate and it must be the email supplied about which is stupid as the end customer is not going to be using mine.

So I logged in to activate and then logged out :cautious:

I went back to Windows 10.
Every now and then some apps would just take longer to load than expected, to the point where it was definitely noticeable. I was on the latest drivers and bios.

So I installed Win 10, and it was similar. I disconnected all my mechanical HDDs and the difference was huge. Even though all my apps and everything OS related except for OneDrive was on my SSD, just having the mechanical HDDs connected slowed things down considerably.

But I always had these mechanical HDDs, and it was never this slow, so I reconnected them and reverted the only thing I changed for Win 11... the TPM module. I turned that off in the bios and had the same old Windows 10 speed all the time.

In future I will try installing windows 11 and the disabling TPM afterwards and see if I can have a Windows 11 as snappy as my Windows 10 is now.

I have an original Gigabyte Aorus Elite X570 with Ryzen 5600 if anyone is interested.

That’s interesting and must have wasted a sht load of time to troubleshoot, how would the TPM be involved with hard drives, I actually can’t even remember what the TPM even does?

Luckily not much.
I remembered reading somewhere that having mechanical hdds connected could slow down windows 11, but since disconnecting them permanently wasn't really an option I just installed win 10. When the issue then persisted it was the first thing I tried.

I also remembered reading somewhere about TPM (possibly with AMD systems?) affecting performance, so immediately after reconnecting the HDDs I turned that off.
I didn't turn it back on to confirm that it really was the cause though.
I suppose it could have been that a couple of restarts sorted out Windows 10 performance, but didn't feel like verifying yet.

Have you checked that the HDDs were not being used as virtual memory?

I didn't check, but it's unlikely. My C drive, the default for the swap file, is large enough for the swap file, and I have 32GB RAM which I rarely fill.

Hi everyone, not IT guy so please don't smash me if my questions are basic one.

I got a gaming computer from wootware and it comes with unactivated windows 11 copy. I want to activate it with a windows key and it seems it cost approx. 2,300 ZAR. Below is the link to the product:

Question is, is there any other cheaper way to do it or this is the only option?

My second question is the wifi on Windows 11. Its terrible, I am hardly getting 10 mbps max while all other devices (including apply, android) in the same room getting 150 mbps. I have tried everything based on whatever is available online from resetting network, change of dns server etc etc but nothing seems to be working.

Is it anything to do with inactivated windows copy? If not, what is the solution? Should I just call an IT nerd to look into it. This is so frustrating.

Thanks for your help in advance.

@i-Tech Solutions will sell you a key for cheap.

You can use that key for Windows 11.

Will get onto it, hopefully it works on 11 as you said!!

It will work

but if you're worried, get the Win11 key ...

Tried doing a search, but couldnt find anything in this thread.
Is anyone else's time refusing to update automatically? Keep getting a time synchronization error like in this link.
