On my Macbook Air the difference to login screen is 26 sec for Win7 vs 13 sec for Win8.1 (excl 15 sec Boot Camp vBIOS post on both).

At no point did Roman4604 say "Buy Windows 8 because it boots faster", plus you are arguing against a proven statement, Windows 8 does boot faster.

Try the same test to send an email with Outlook. Getting to the login screen is not a good test. Microsoft have over the years moved the login earlier in the boot sequence but it still takes the same amount of time for apps to be opened and be functional.

Are these both identical 7 and 8 setups with the same drivers and apps and usage? Do remember Windows suffers from slow down bloat with age.

Yep, I timed the boot up on my MBA when it had Win7 on it. Also software config/load identical as per my normal work requirement.

As mentioned earlier a fair test is to cold boot and send an email with Outlook.

In any case I almost never "boot" as I hibernate. So much faster.

It does boot faster it's been proven many times.

Slow down with bloat and age, what BS. My Win7 installation ran for nearly 4 years before I replaced it with 8 with no noticeable slow down, then again I don't run around installing 20 toolbars and what not. Also keeping your startup clean helps a lot.

Win 8 definitely boots faster. But not the reason I prefer it.
I find the overall system is more responsive and navigation around the OS using a keyboard seems better (find a mouse to be counter productive in some cases).

There are a few annoyances but not enough to change my preference of OS.

I would say Windows 8 takes longer to shut down, Windows 7 is instant.

- Majorly upgraded task manager (also is perf monitor & startup mgr)
- More informative copy dialogues (transfer graphs)
- Better default ext handling (asks 1st time like Android)

- Explorer ribbon (if your used to using Office)
