Windows 7 a Linux killer?

The only way Wind0$e will ever be able to 'kill of linux' is to be FREE, GRATIS and Good at security with the great Compiz UI mulit touch, I think not and being a user that has long Linux experience parallel to using windo$e ( all versions from win 3.0) and all flava's of unix in between.

The strides made by uBuntu/Fedora and small linux oS's such as puppy/pc linux cannot be discounted. When can you take a 50mb disc and use it to start up your broken windows installation?

Also moving user profiles on linux is only a ten/fifteen min affair whilst with Wind0$e its a anything up to a whole blooming day!

Also the ease of installing safe programs on Linus using any nuimber installers is far more secure and safer than the hap hazard method needed for M$(ANY).

I remind the vociferous WINTEL users that I use this platform everyday but I also love the speed at which Linux boots, the extra boost you get when using wireless over WINTELL versions/all not only this the software is free as in the wind not as in beer.

Whats there to kill? For M$ to KILL ALL / opposition oh grep this lol they would go bankrupt.

Also remember that Linux is OPEN SOURCE.

Last I heard you can't double click a file to install a linux driver...

Yes but [-]less useful[/-] more secure.
How so? You can roll back drivers, update drivers automatically, or change drivers already installed on your PC, all with one or two clicks?

Not even sure how the linux panel looks? Is it different for each "type" of distr

Help my xbox games won't run on my PS3! I'm a retard!

Um... yeah... *scratches head* you came up with that all on your own? seriously... um... why would you want to use xbox? has windows taught you nothing? and all those linux freaks, as am I, stop moaning cos linux doesn't play your favourite game and buy a PS3 already... i did... was the best move ever... well actually, i borrow my brother-in-laws PS2... but still.. it's the thought that counts...

I meant the linux panel is [-]less useful[/-] more secure than device manager.

What graphics card have you got. Most onboards are crap... get an Nvidia...
Hmm I see a problem in that.

Firstly everyone mentioned that Linux is free, Windows isn't.

So if we are trying to build cheap computers for the masses to use, does it not defeat the object of now spending more money on an additional graphics card that can work with linux, Which now puts it in the same price range again as if you just added the windows os into the price the first time around? :D

Plus now you'll have great graphics card, but since you cant play the LATEST games on linux, its also a waste again and would of been cheaper in the long run to go MS?

You can play anything from ID Software. Also the following:

Except for the ID games, all the other games are free, and most also have Windows binaries.

Wine do support some Windows games, and the paid for version even more, so you could play most games.

You're doing it wrong! FAIL! etc.

There is no reason for your Linux installation to do random **** without you buggering something up.

LOL I am serious. I was playing some audio files and shut down the PC. The next day I turn it on and it starts giving all sorts of errors on boot about not being able to load certain things or whatever (I can't quite remember).

I eventually could not even get a GUI up and I somehow found out that it was because permissions on all files had gone all screwy. I could only work with GUI in ROOT but there were issues there too...trying the logical thing of creating a new user account did not work either. Thinking of it gets my blood going :/

It is not the first time either:

After a legit Ubuntu update X-Server kept on crashing and as a new user I had no idea what commands to put in to get it back up (this is why I say troubleshooting is difficult...either you know or you don't..there is no figuring it out on your own).

Ever since I had Linux I have had to Format/Re-install more times than I care to count. Either some app was impossible to get going (Like WINE which is very buggy even after version 1), or trying to get 5.1 working properly resulted in a mess, or some library k*k didn't want to work properly after it installed and I couldn't fix, or as mentioned above where X-Server stops working (which has happened more than once), or whatever...I can't remember them all. :( even a mate of mine who is a Linux fan has been caught numerous times troubleshooting for hours and hours day by day trying to get some problem fixed. I remember he did an update and suddenly it just went for a ball of shyte. Poor guy sat trying random console commands for a loooong time.

But how is it more secure

It is more secure because it does less. The less something does, the less surface for attack there is.
That is the cornerstone to the increased security you find on Linux and MacOS.

You can't even double-click on a SETUP type file to install an application like OpenOffice.
BS! You can double click on it! It is just that [-]nothing happens[/-] it is more secure.

So you have limited access to games and other software applications and your now sitting with a PC that cost the same as it would of with Win. So even with Linux being free, it costs you more in the long run because you have to be careful what HW you buy
