Windows 7 Beta 1 - Download here

Just installed now.
Awesome so far! FAST! I dont know if I was the only on who noticed a tiny lag in the start menu of Vista no matter what the machine, its gone in 7. Feels like im running XP.
Anyone in PE want it give me a shout.
 
it appears that the download files are indeed corrupt as a chum who downloaded it found out , ran an md5 checker and they different.
oh the drama.

I installed W7 late last night ,Now I find out that they Dident include Windows Mail I have a telkom e.mail now im Capped cant use my live or Google e.mail .
 
Shame on you guys for not dual booting. It's a good OS but it's still in BETA, just partition your drive and dual boot it with whatever you're using at the moment.

But seriously, I've got my recovery disc and 30 minutes later I'm back on Vista, just have to backup my files and stuff.

That said, I'm glad I installed it as my primary OS, gives me the chance to truly test it for what it's worth, I've sent a few feedback reports, some good, some bad, great OS in my opinion.

Off topic, you use Acronis True Image for your backups/restoration?

Use microsoft outlook ( its part of office. ). or download a pop3 mail program.

there are tons of free email clients, find one you like and use that, most are better than the stupid windows mail.

Never did this Dule Boot thing .I have all my Stuff Backed up in my Second hard Drive .
Can I put My Vista Home prem in a Dual boot .
IS it Better to have Vista first and W7 after.

No. Last year November I just loaded all my files on the external and slapped in the recovery disc, wham bam, disc images are created on the fly (it's a laptop) and my Vista installation is extracted.

Mind you, I load Sp1 afterwards and usually uninstall some of the bundled software, but it doesn't take more than hour for everything.

It's a small Toshiba with a Celeron M and I'm truly amazed at it's performance with W7.

W7 has amazing sound quality as well, I could hear the difference straight away, it's fricken amazing, really. I had a huge mess up where if I multitasked on Vista Sp1 my sound would skip or be choppy and my system would beep and freeze sometimes.

My laptop has been on since about Saturday afternoon when I upgraded from Vista to W7 and I've been playing music and browsing and watching movies and there's no performance spikes or any sound issues, it really rocks.

I'm not a gamer btw ;)
 
K so after many hours of playing around and installing stuff i still think this is a knock off of vista, not a thing though as i love vista 64 bit.

I use just over 900 megs of ram when i am booted in with vista with plenty stuff running the background, like 60 processes, the first time i loaded into windows 7 i was 896 with like 10 processes.

I find the start bar lags slightly something that never happened in vista. Other than that its exactly like vista in almost every way, sure somethings are named different and maybe look slightly different but wow i hope they bring something better to the table than a vista look alike.

Sure it is fast but i don't find it much faster than vista and i used the exact same hardware to test, i suppose maybe the guys with slower systems might see the performance different a bit more.

Firstly... if you have no reason to use W7 just stick to Vista, W7 is far from finished and only for testing purposes.

Yep, this is like Vista SP2 just tweaked a little. Vista feels more polished because a few GUI elements are missing in W7 and the personal folder icons suck, I prefer Vista's.

But I'm pretty sure the finished product will be successful, I'm really enjoying the new features.

Windows key + Pause:
Advanced system settings>Performance, settings
Turn off:
Fade or Slide Menus into view
Fade or Slide Tooltips into view
Slide Open Combo Boxes
Slide Taskbar Buttons


I changed the exact same settings in Vista and it creates an almost instant taskbar ;) No sliding uuuuupppppp and doooowwwwnnn ;)
 
Maybe its just the jump from 32bit to 64bit that I am seeing(and the increase in available RAM).

I like playing around with new Stuff AND to see whats all the Hyp about.Will probley go back to Vista When the Novilty weres off :D
at least I got a Clean PC :cool:
 
win7 feels better
and some stuff are just more together than 50 odd windows to do something
but ill install some stuff and see how it runs after 5 days ;)
i see however dx11 is on it...

-but most importantly it runs doomsday smooth, i mean no os is an os if it can't run doomsday heheh......
 
Dx-11 is going to another BS for nvidia and ATI to sell cards.

Microsoft must be getting a huge kick-back from all this dx BS. Yea i love new stuff as well Diane, normally i love windows beta's because they offer something a bit different but this is like moving around vista 64 bit :). Nothing to really make me want to go deeper because its basically vista so i won't find anything that is not in vista :(.
