No you don't. 64bit is alot faster and MS only continue to support 32bit 'cause the don't want to force everybody to go 64bit now. It will kill their business. If have got everything 64bit, why stay behind on 32bit?
 
My only issue is that 64bit apps are still in the minority. I will probably switch when I can get OFFICIAL 64bit builds of my favourite apps: Firefox, Thunderbird, Foobar2000, Pidgin....

You mean Firefox does'nt work with the 64 bit?
 
I use firefox and thunderbird on my 64 bit OS. Most programs work on 64 bit and only oldish programs that have no updated versions will struggle.

32 bit apps run fine... besides, if you decide to switch to 64bit in future this means you have to download all the 64bit versions of drivers and apps rather than progressively collect the 64bit versions like everyone else is doing.

Ver met die download van die 64 bit. Sal dit beslis probeer. Het laasweek die 32 bit probeer maar dit wou een hdd nie optel nie en wou ook nie met anti-virus program werk nie. Sal vannag na download 64bit probeer

They should still work in 64bit, although they will run in 32bit mode... If you go into task manager (on a pc that runs a 64bit version of windows), the processes that has a start next to them are the ones running in 32bir mode. (FYI) :D

Programs seem to load slightly faster than in vista for me. But its very much like vista. Not that that's bad, I like vista.

Yep, pretty much Vista with a few tweaks under the hood.

I actually had to move back to vista because some things still need work like media center and gaming.

Yeah, still a bit concerned about running it in a production (read working) environment. Will be installing Win 2008 server on my notebook, and run Windows 7 through Hyper-V to test :)
 
Am not installing a beta version of windows ever again in my life. I did it with vista back in day and my pc would not even boot up.
 
I want to know i have bout 1 gig left of my int. cap and heard that the download links of above go through local mirrors, can i start my download or is that a crap story...?

Get the link with an international account, add it to your download manager and switch to local. It's not a crap story, all Microsoft services work on local bandwidth, even Windows Update.

Yeah, I ran Vista 64 before Win 7, and I did not notice any major performance changes, that is why I went for 32bit again when it came to Win7. I reckon things will start to change more rapidly when main stream apps go 64.
