Windows 7 bombing out - I think??

For the past two days I've gotten to work and my PC is off (I always leave it on to finish running specific apps and maintenance routines etc.)

I'm running Windows 7 64bit... Where can I find logs of shutdowns or fatal errors that would cause a shutdown so I can see if something funny is happening.

I thought maybe it was a power outage but another pc in the same office stays on... ???
 
i don`t think its win7 maybe just hardware failure? this morning i was busy with a customer it switches off, like shutting down. i thought i press something that it needs to reboot. so i switch it on, so put in the different passwords in, then suddenly without warning it switches off. what i did is unplug the power cable leave it out for 5 min. start up again, never had a problem since it now about 4hours running.
so no i don`t think win7 is problematic like vista or xp.

Event ID 41 - Kernel Power - The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Two events that correlate directly with me coming to work with the pc switched off... Ok now how to figure out what was causing this.... I know it's power since another PC was still running when I came in the morning...

Any ideas?

Ok .. that gives me an idea - have been having problems with my UPS lately where it suddenly beeps and all power is lost - only happened once I have forgotten about it... I'll try disconnect it completely and see if this persists...

Sometimes the power will drop for a very brief time, like when lights flicker. Certain PSUs just carry on right through, while others will power off. I don't know how you could practically test whether it is this, though.

Kind of goes against the idea of a UPS doesn't it? The whole 'uninterruptable' part?
 
Windows has Resource Monitor that will graph & log a range of inputs for you. You can either check that your PC isn't being unplugged for the vacuum after hours, or use Resource Monitor to try & diagnose what leads to your losing power.

Connect the UPS to the PC (serial or USB) and load the software.
Tell your UPS to do a graceful shutdown when x amount of minutes run time remain.

Good idea ... haven't connect the cable or installed the software :P
