Windows 7 or Strata?

Steve Ballmer Quote: “Windows 7 will be Vista, but a lot better,”

:sick::sick::sick:

It could hardly be much worse LOL!

But I'm not getting my hopes up. Vista to me: monolithic, bloated, slow, fugly, intrusive, restrictive, did I mention fugly, user-hostile, DRM-encrusted, fugly again. I pray it is not all based on those infernal tiny "ribbons".

/me pees on ribbons

Edit.

I think the whole "Vista" thing will turn out to be a millstone around their necks. Junk it, and incrementally develop XP as Apple does with MacOS X. If "7" is anything like Vista, I'm outta there!

Oh no - another xp / linux ftw / vistasux derailers heaven thread. Yawn.:p

I'll believe it when I see it. These people (Microsoft) are infamous for their vapourware & FUD. I can see it now: upgrade to Windows 7 (or whatever it's called when released in 2012) or Nazi's will ride through the streets on dinosaur-back and eat your children.

Well, as regards the OP, I think it's a good thing MS are trying to rush out windows 7. Imagine a world without windows? Linux on 99% of the world's pc's.

Doesn't bear contemplating...:D

[dream]

Haha!! Telkom vs Microsoft on how the feck the SA consumers will be able to afford running a web based OS/Strata.

Microsoft will scheme why the hell doesn't it sell very well in SA and all roads will suddenly lead to Telkom. I can see it now...Telkom made publicly liable for the lack of technological advances in this country and are slated by Microsoft internationally as the worst example of management and ethics in Africa in the IT sector ever!!

Telkom will be in the spotlight and will be internationally recognised as the worst company in SA. The Telkom brand will forever be printed in college textbooks for your typical business ethics classes and will stand alongside the likes of Enron in your ethics case studies and examples.

People in SA will finally understand and will know why we are so far behind with the rest of the world. They will chew up every Telkom suit and spit at their directors and kick their SUV's everytime they drive down the road.

And I will be a happy person :) because Google will step in and save the day to provide us all with good affordable Internet in conjunction with a marketing drive for Linux and open source software.

[/dream]

i wonder if it will alls o be bug riddled like vista....

Meanwhile, Linux continues slowly gaining ground.

I am now going to reinstall Ubuntu for the 3rd time because every time I create a new user, the next time I try to login, it just hangs. Displays the wallpaper, then nothing.

The big change, however, is the inclusion of multi-touch capabilities. It looks like Microsoft will include a number of the technologies used in its Surface computing project in Windows 7. The multi-touch features will allow users to move objects around the desktop, flip them over and scale them, all using the touchscreen."

Stop trying to be flashy, just make something that works, THEN go for the fluff.

What on earth are you doing to it? Never had any hassles on any of the 85+ computers I've installed it on (various brands, models, hardware specs, etc)

Eish, ja hey, ubuntu even runs on advanced Microwaves from the 80's....

Try this, sudo apt-get install Windows7

kidding about that last part, just thought itd be funny, I like Ubuntu, using it atm while doing my MCSE etc, *Vmware ftw* Just hope ill be able to run the Cisco simulators through WINE, anyone? Installed it on my GF's computer, she kept getting viruses because she gets shows etc from her friends portables, its been a week now and ive had no complaints from her, so yea you really can give a non tek person Ubuntu to work with.

I really hope Mcsoft realizes that simplicity is where its at, the reason why people love XP so much is that it "just works", no fancy stuff, it works. But even then if you arent connected to the internet, frustration can begin to grow in the form of viruses, incomplete software etc.

As for the debacle on Mcsoft OS's from the future sucking on the teat of the internet like theres no tomorrow in order to stay functional, I really do not see a very bright progression for them in places like Africa, perhaps a local Mcsoft server? Anyone? They really need to consider the fact that everyone on this planet doesn't have uncapped internet solutions, its quite clear that Vista didnt adhere to that fact, which didn't really help it.

Windows 7 = Vista x a lot better...
to put this in mathematical terms, let's assume Vista's overall rating is 0.
Then 0x100000000000000000000000000 (a lot better)
=0.
So there you have it... Windows 7 is still doomed to be useless.
