Windows 7 or Strata?

I am so glad I'm not one of the idiots who actually went out and bought Vista. It is way overpriced as well and Vista to me = Just another Windows ME. :P

Here we go

Oh come on, not again, why do all the whiny nasally underlaid Linux freaks always try turn every bit of news from MS; on the operating system front; into a OS war. (Rhetorical)

All you linux people need to take a chill pill and go play with your hobby operating system and let the big boys get on, okay, now there's a good boy.

/me runs and hides, some linux freaks scare me.

LOL

Some of my friends are Linux Freaks and they scare me as well.

Is it maybe the fact that Windows is better than Linux that scares you guys??? Just asking because you really sound scared that this Windows 7 will again kick ass.... :D I'm running XP, VISTA on several computers and don't have a problem of a day old.

Its bragging rights, didnt you know its leet to run linux, its a minority thing ;)

I am now going to reinstall Ubuntu for the 3rd time because every time I create a new user, the next time I try to login, it just hangs. Displays the wallpaper, then nothing.

Ja. I must admit that I have had my share of Linux issues in the past. The best was when Ubuntu changed over the Pulseaudio in 8.04 and broke sound in half the apps that I used. If Microsoft had done that it would have been the end of the world but the Linux guys seem to get away with murder. In the end I found that most of the distros release too quickly and are too willing to sacrifice stability for newness and so I went back to XP. Good old tried and tested XP. I am enjoying the experience :)

And now I wait for the Linux fanboys to charge to the rescue and call me stupid, rip off Microsoft and say that they have had no problems with Linux and that I am dreaming if I say that there are any bugs...

That's another great thing about Linux - the fanboys *not* There is nothing like being called an idiot for running proprietary software that works fine for me and is reliable. Really makes me want to go and try out the latest open source software.

On another note after SP1 was released Vista wasn't that bad. There were some new features that I liked. Performance was an issue for me and they need to look at that. The way that thing thrashes the hard drive, one of the slowest components of the machine, is criminal because it nukes performance.

I suspect that win7 is going to be a major success. *dons flame suit*

They got hammered with vista and they learned from the experience as far as I can tell. The guts of vista appear to be fairly solid from a technical PoV...they just fcked up solidly with the stuff built on top of that (UAC etc).

And I'm sure they'll put a bit of thought into the publicity side this time...cause vista got nailed with the public's perception (justified or not).

That being said, I'm hoping to switch to linux as a main OS when 8.10 is released.

Even as a Linux fan I hope they manage to make something of Windows 7. The UAC was a ery big stuffup. Like trying to copy Linux's "edit as root"... except it's really annoying.
Can't wait for 8.10 to come out. Just 11 more days...

Since my surname doesnt end in Gates or Shuttleworth, and the Rand is all shot to heck and gone, I dont somehow see myself upgrading.

Minimum specs for XP x 10 = min specs for Vista. min Specs for Vista x 10 = min specs for 7 probably. Watch the installed footprint of OS only be something retarded like 10GB or so.

MS need to get off of this sodding bloatware trend that they on. I mean look at office. how do you justify a nearly 1 GB install for word only? thats just plain lazy coding. Im sorry but it is.

Now with all that in mind, Im not gonna go blow 20k on a new flashy system with dual quad processors and 4 GB ram and SLI video cards, just so my OS can run. On my current system the app with the highest requirements is the OS (Vista) Im sorry but thats just not right.

That's reminds me - I couldn't update the Vista Home Basic on my laptop to SP1 (tried about 4 or 5 times already from disk and windows update.)

I put Vista Business on a pc the other day and same issue.

Vista is a major disappointment & so is MS Office 2007.

It feels almost as if Microsoft ran out of ideas for a funky new OS.....and considering that this was their first offering since Windows XP got released in 2001!! I say clean out the whole Vista dev team & get some new blood in there!

I am running Vista Business & it's OK, but still annoyed that a copy/move takes so long, even with SP1 installed....and a few other annoyances. Fortunately TuneUp Utilities 2008 got rid of UAC completely.

*Had Office 2007, but went back to Office 2003. Much better.
