Windows 7 pre-lease discounts

I have just come of the phone with Microsoft and i am quite dumbstruck that the windows home family pack edition of windows 7 home where you get to install it on three computers and is only slightly more expensive than ordinary home addition, will not be available in South Africa. I have three computers in the house and was told by Microsoft that i have to buy a copy for each computer. I find this totally unacceptable that the rich countries like Europe and America are given this option but not making it available to us poorer countries.

I find that somewhat shocking as well.

Besides ... I have 2 PC's not 3 ... so having a 3rd licence is a bit pointless. But maybe they'll make the option available at a later date. At least I hope so.

Guess I'll hang off on buying Windows 7 for a bit and see.

here is incredible connections pricing on retail editions ..

Home Basic R1399
Home Premium R1799
Professional R2999
Ultimate R3199

Incredibles pricing model is way off from other retailers, they really need to have a relook at this ... other chain stores also do have overheads

Where did you get the pricing, nothing on their site.

Doesn't surprise me, so they are charging more for home basic than the other for home premium.

That pricing is horrendous, have they not heard of competitive pricing?

I saw these prices today on my local newspaper, I nearly choked...

What a bunch of ripoffs, incredible corruption...

I've purchased Windows 7 Home Premium from pcworld.co.uk and I'm getting a mate to bring it back from the UK for me. Only R840. :D

Down with Microsoft SA!
Don't blame MSSA. By law they cannot set the retail price and as you know MS is closely watched. Remember, there's a two-tier channel, and each sets it own prices which Microsoft cannot dictate. Microsoft sell to distributors (and I know for sure that historically the SA price to SA distributors is lower than it is to UK distributors), who sell to resellers, who sell to the public.

True - so again the SA public is ripped off with no questions asked... I think I'll get my sister in the UK to bring a copy or two over in January...

I blame Microsoft SA, but not for the public retail prices, but for not offering the pre-release discounted versions to SA distributors/retailers. The majority of (all?) SA retailers have only started offering Windows 7 in the last week, which means, to me, that they were never offered the pre-released discounted versions to sell. I'm signed up with several distributors and they definitely never got pre-release discounted copies to sell.

Incredible Connection's prices are high, but that's not at all unexpected - all their prices are high, for everything. Always have been.

Sorry, didn't catch that earlier. Might as well get it from the US.

I also called MS SA about this, the person I spoke to (think it was a Henry) said that the Family Pack would definitely not be offered in SA.

As usual we South Africans suck the hind t1t when it comes to product selection from major internationals. And then they wonder why people engage in piracy and illegal imports.

Sorry...rant over
