Windows 7 Pre-Order & Launch Pricing

Not readily, but factor that into the cost of a Mac and you'll see that you get a better machine, better OS and at a better price. Macs trounce non-Macs when you compare them feature for feature

I don't buy that. I can build a PC with quality components that exceed the Mac specs (much higher performace) for a fraction of the price and it will run OSX just fine, updates and all.

Macs trounce non-Macs when you compare them feature for feature, to compare a MBP to a PC you need to buy a high end Sony Vaio. Subtract also cr@ppy Antivirus and bloatware firewall solution from the price and cost of removing pre-installed OEM malware.

A nice F-you from Microsoft to its fans! LOL. :)

So consider a Mac next time -- maybe?

The OS may be cheaper but the entire computer with the OS is far more than buying a good pc and windows.

So the whole package is far more expensive is it not?

Actually for the price of mac you can build a power house windows pc, in terms of price you get far more power buying a windows computer than you do a mac computer, so actually windows computers are cheaper even if you include windows than the mac equivalent.

I don't think so. Maybe for a Mac Mini or an iMac but you won't be able to make a Mac Pro - a dual Xeon system - for cheaper. Secondly you won't be able to build a same specc'ed laptop for the same price - you won't find a MBP like laptop with the same high specs (including very long battery life). Even looking at the iMac, the screen is 8bit - you won't even be able to find an 8bit LCD in consumer stores - you only get TN based cr^p.

Back when the first gen Mac Pros came out Anandtech did a comparison and they tried to build a Mac Pro like Windows workstation (dual xeons, dual CPU mobo, high end Gfx card, 1KW power supply) - it worked out to be more expensive.

Secondly Apple gets volume discounts on quality components, their stuff is higher quality than off-the-shelf purchased parts - especially in a B grade region like South Africa.

I've seen people install OSX on PCs and the hacked versions don't run updates properly - and not all the features are enabled - plus have other issues.

Thank you for your interest. Please return to this site on June 26, 2009, 8:00 AM GMT.

Eish!!

Mmm got that too - it peaks my interest that they're showing GMT times.
Could just be for the European countries.
Maybe we'll be lucky enough to order as well.
Wonder what the shipping costs will be - why not just make it available for download?
Cut out the middleman :p

Do mac pc's not use intel and ddr 2/3 now? Do intel supply them with better quality cpu's? why is the memory better quality peter?

I do not care what you use but claiming mac's are cheaper than pc's seems a bit silly considering a mac pro desktop quadcore and 3 gb memory sets you back about 25k-30k. Do you have any idea that kind of pc you can buy for that money and would include a 5k vga card?

Do you get better than gigabyte and ASUS for mobo's? Have you seen the hardware we get in this country it is as good as anywhere in the world.

How exactly did my thread turn into a Mac vs PC debate?!?
Stay on point people! ;)

From the quoted article on the first page of this thread:

Likely feeling the heat from competitor Apple's $29 price point for OS X Snow Leopard (set to release in September), Microsoft has reduced the price of its most popular edition -- Home Premium -- to $119.99 for upgrades and $199.99 for full retail copies. Both price points are $40 less than Vista's original Home Premium price.

Yip - but what are the difference between the options they're launching - can't seem to find any relevant info or my googling is a bit slack :o :p :D

It will be exactly the same differences between the Vista versions.

Except remember Vista Business=Windows 7 Pro

Nothing changed, still the same old.

That you can say of MS at least, they have been consistent with that price for a couple of years now.

Any idea how much OEM will cost? How much does Vista Untimate OEM cost these days?

I'll wait for our russian&chinese cousins to deliver the "unrestricted" version :D

Communists traitor!

Why do you hate our capitalist freedoms? :(
:D

But yeah that's the paradox hey, how many of the right wing posters on the net run Chinese/Russian cracked windows :D
