I always known it's a alot faster than Vista (comparable to XP) on the same hardware - but I recently read somewhere the builds also have something to do with speed.

For example, I read build 7100 is reasonably slow (that's what I have) but it seems to run decently on my system.

If I get the release, is the speed noticable? Is anything really changed?

You probably find that 7100 is built more for debugging, release should be faster. But I can't say for sure.

Final release should be quicker, and if, as mentioned above, debugging is enabled then the pre release version will be slower. You may not notice it on your system, depending on what you do. Having said that; after using Windows 7 for almost a month, I can't think of any reason not to upgrade to Windows 7....

After using Win 7 for about 3 weeks i've come to the conclustion that the monumental failure of Vista was intended... It makes Win 7 all that much better...

Oh I'm definatley getting it ;)

Just wanted to know if I'm going to recieve anything 'extra' ... a little speed boost, a new colour icon, a different icon altogether!

Windows 7 is awesome, been using it for over 2 months now and i'm extremely happy with its performance. Haven't had a single issue yet, also running 64bit and not a single driver issue either ;)
