Seriously, the User Account Control stuff is not nearly as intrusive as Vista was (dumped that after 3 weeks for trying it).

How secure it is only time will tell, anyone who claims to know otherwise is smoking his/her socks.

For the last 2 months of those 13 months ... the OS shuts down every 2 hours to let you know that your license is nearing an end ... or did you miss the FAQ

No, I didn't miss it, but by that time it'll be irrelevant, as my company will have licenced it by then.

My home PC is Ubuntu Linux (well, when it works, that is! ). But my Laptop is company owned and company licenced. One of the few perks not being taxed.

Yes, it uses local bandwidth. I just jumped through the initial hoops to start the download, disconnected my intl. account and got the 64 bit version using local. As an aside, anyone know where I can find Vista 64 drivers for an HP Deskjet 690C? I've tried HP's site, but they say that it's included with Vista . At least Canon keeps their printer drivers on their site

The official download is hosted locally. I found this out by accident as I resumed the download of the 32 bit version after my cap had expired and the download carried on.

You have to start using international bandwidth to access the Microsoft site to start the download process. Once it starts, pause the download and switch to a local account. Got both the 32bit and 64 bit versions this way as well as the XP virtual machine.

I can't seam to get the Task Scheduler of the 64-bit version to actually run my Route Sentry at startup.
I have switched off blank account password blocking and added then task again but still no luck... anyone experiencing something similar?

okay downloading now. http://www.iphone3g.co.za/win7.png .... i bought R12 airtime, topped up my extra sim and started the download using international then paused and switched to local DSL - check the pic

If the 32-bit (x86) English-language version of Windows 7 is for you, be sure to check Knowledge Base article 970789 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970789)- it details a hotfix for pre- and post RC installation.

okay i got Windows 7 - downloaded with local bandwidth - took about almost 2 hours. Anyways once downloaded I burnt a DVD of it using TOAST (Mac) and then used Parallels to install it - took a while but its running very smooth. There are a few hickups here and there but I think thats due to all the stuff loading for the first time. Actually im typing this post in Win7. I installed it cos I need to test my sites using IE8 and the enviroment that people witll be using. So im not going to be installing any software on this baby at all.

BTW - love the wallpapers (South Africa) - the Elephant one.

Umm yes, if you have 2 ADSL accounts and split your traffic local/international. if your accounts are on saix, then the download goes to the RRBA (Rosebank) Akamai server at SAIX. I run all our group update over an ADSL locally with split traffic like this...

I remember the pain of doing it with Vista. Pain i can do without.

Should be easy enough, but wanted to check if anyone else had tried

Roddy my advice is never dual boot.

Load windows xp on one drive, then unplug that drive and load windows 7 on the other drive and use your bios to select which install you want. Much easier and less hassle with dual booting problems should you not want the one OS.

I don't think that's quite fair ... even the "experts" out there often spout nonsense about it.

TimTDP, the short version? If you have 64bit capable hardware AND have 4Gb+ RAM, go for it, otherwise stick with 32bit.

I've got the 64bit hardware, but my work only gave me 2Gb RAM ... so I'm on 32bit.

... but ... I'm going to try and get my boss to approve a RAM upgrade

I disagree in a bit way... after using vista 64 on 2 gig's before i went to 4.. I can say it seems to be alot more stable and faster that the 32-bit version..
