Sign up with GoogleI reinstalled Windows 7. A few updates came through and after that nothing. I searched the web and read all the stories about new location for update server and dead MS links and tried all the fixes, but other than a screen showing 'Checking for updates...' nothing happened.
I found the fix which is (I think - hard drive died a couple of weeks later): Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu - download from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53332.
After that I received all the updates.
I fixed it on a friends new out the box laptop with Windows 7 with the same issue - worked like a charm.
PS: if the link is incorrect I'll find it when I get to recover data off the dead drive.Windows 7 update
