Hi All

I moved to Windows 7 this weekend. At first glance it just seems like Vista with slightly faster booting.
What is it that makes 7 great? What am I missing here?

Also, please could anyone post a link to where I can download executables of the updates, so that should I ever need to reinstall, I won't be waisting too much cap on it.

Shot,
Cleric

Aero shake
Areo peek
Windows xp mode
Windows taskbar

Looking good. Keep em coming.

EDIT: Update
Tip: To customize the right-click send to context menu, type "shell:sendto" in the windows explorer address bar to add or remove items.

Also...Keeping in shift while right clicking on a file or folder gives you additional options (such as copy as path, which is quite handy) and additional send to locations.

I'm keen to move to Windows 7, but will stay with Vista for the time being.

Too many of my apps are not fully compatible with Windows 7 yet & Vista runs quite ok after SP2.

Maybe when I get a new laptop.

I will personally avoid Windows 7 for a while... say till SP1 comes along - let everyone sort out all the problems first :)

I tried Vista on my P4 2.66 with 1 GB RAM. Couldn't get the XP VGA driver to load as there was no Vista driver. Crashed a lot as well.

Been running Win 7 for just under a month now, excepted my legacy driver. Videos and DVD's play perfectly full screen. Fast boot up times and better performance than what I had with XP SP3. I'm impressed!!!

Like what exactly?

Have you not been using windows 7?

I am not sure why windows 7 is better than vista but it runs far faster, boots faster. You just need to use windows 7 for a bit and you will see why it is better than vista.

I also thought at first windows 7 was nothing more than an updated vista that was faster but the more i used the more i loved it. Far better than vista mostly because everything runs way faster.

Why do you people keep asking for a SP1 with windows 7, there are very few problems and anything that ran on vista should run under windows 7.

Let me see.....

1. TuneUp Utilities 2009 does not work 100%

2. AVG 8.5 does not work 100%

Ok, I'm staying with Windows Vista. :p

Wow your life must be hard not having tune up utilities installed :p

AVG works fine, i use it to do my monthly scans.

It is! :)

I use TuneUp's disk defragmenter, TuneUp Styler, TuneUp 1 click maintenance....the list goes on. Oh, and I paid for it.

TuneUp fixes all of Vista's irritating problems. ;)

Yup funny how companies make you pay for stuff then when a new windows come out they want you to pay for the new one as well :D

You should email them and ask then when they are going to be supporting windows 7 :D.

I'm sure they will support Windows 7 soon....I'm in no hurry. :)

This topic "heading" is misleading......
so far NO "Updates/tips/tricks/secrets/etc"

Ok, here's a tip....

If you have screwed up the upgrade/install of Windows 7 and can't access all your drives, pop in an Ubuntu 9.04 disk, run Ubuntu straight off the disc (dont install it) and you should be able to see all your drives and copy the files off it. :)

Windows 7 just equals wow, just the under the hood tweaks and useful shortcuts to doing things is quite a sight for sore eyes.

/What does TuneUp Utilies help with anyway?(Just want to know from a MyBB member's point of view). Friends don't let friends use AVG :p, they tell them to use Avast or Avira which are also free.

Apparently the objectives for windows 7 was speed and efficiency. So in terms of differences there are not to many, the ones i have noticed is max (drag to top) and minimizing using drag and drop. Maximizing to half screen, drag to left or right. Very hard to miss the jumplists. The not so obvious things are the changes to the networks control interface. Connect and disconnect from the tray icon. Also stop irritating notifications. In terms of Media Center there is the ability to skip to custom point in movie, the music player also has a cool waterfall album wall .... hmmm in terms of RDP if you remote from a pc with dual display to a pc with dual display it is apparently possible to view both screens. Those are all the things that i picked up, the only i have not tried is the RDP dual screens ... You looking for more?

TuneUp let's you tweak Windows Vista to the max, it's got a very comprehensive Startup Manager and even suggests which programs are safe to disable at startup. Then there's the registry cleaner, registry defragmenter......hang on, just download it. It's free for 30 days. ;)

*I'm using the paid edition of AVG, very different beast from the free edition. ;)

Will try it out but I hope for the best in Vista SP2.

*I'll just stick to my ESET Smart Security, false-positives are just not my style.
