Windows 7 users are taking their time upgrading to Windows 10

Sheesh I updated from Windows 7 to 10 when they offered it. Yes initially there were some teething issues but it's come along way in the 5 years it's been out.
Then again my daily driver is Ubuntu 19.04 and at home I only use it for games. When I did try windows 10 for work the company policies of pushing bloody Mcaffee killed it and I'm not talking about a measly I3 or I5 laptop, it was a pretty okayish I7.

Mcafee enterprize? I absoluely loathe that contemptible piece of crapware. It's not often that I say windows defender offers a better experience.

Yeah that's it, it will chomp through 90% of the CPU and you cannot work. My Windows VM takes minutes to start up and when it runs it kills it. The Windows laptops and desktops also, their answer was to put 1tb ssds in the laptops, which I'm not complaining about as Ubuntu is lightening quick. Whereas the Windows with mcaffee installed may as well have hdds.
I remember when mcafee was still light, strong and stable..... but then again I remember the same thing with zonealarm, I even remember norton being good once. then 2007-2010 happened and everything went to poop. Now AVG of all things is a resource hog and comodo firewall stopped being terrible..... it's AV still sucks though. I actually have comodo firewall and avast running on the same machine AND my internet works..... still feels like a minor miracle.

Been using a linux distro of some sorts, for more than a decade.
I have no such complaints, but see my comment re why I keep Windows on a dual boot in the first place.

I hate mcafee with a passion. loathsome software.
Perhaps you are simply more comfortable with using non-gui apps, myself I unfortunately think visually and I have a bad short term memory so I NEED proper GUI's..... also there are minor typing problems, I'd be a disaster on a typewriter.
That's not really the case. It's more the OS not supporting the motherboards but most manufacturers have drivers you can integrate for that.

My Dad has a Windows 10 PC.... because he was forced to upgrade.
He calls me over, can't get back into Google Chrome.
I notice it's because there is a program upgrade warning flashing on the toolbar.
Yep, it's that POS called Skyp trying to update itself again.
He already set it up once again a few months ago... but now it tries to update itself twice a week for no reason whatsoever other than to PYO.
He already set up the Microphone and user pic, etc. but everytime it updates it wants to do that crap all over again, and THERE IS NO WAY to exit thre program until you've done all that stuff.
You can't exit it from the tasbar either, you have to go back into the virus, I mean program.
This is typical of Windows 10 behaviour.
It floors me that people are just OK with this crap.

Never experienced that before.... isnt it more typical UWP behaviour than win10 perhaps? UWP's are junk compared to proper app's.

My Windows 8.1 laptop "upgraded" to Windows 10 and it was a nightmare after it did! A clean install has made things more acceptable but my Windows 7 machines still outperform Windows 10.
Windows 7 is both stable and quite easy to fix if one gets issues.
My advise to Microsoft is to re-brand Windows 7 to Windows 11 with just a cosmetic revamp and watch it fly off the shelves!

TBH I'm probably gonna use LM 19.2 (when it finally releases) as my main OS and win10 as a secondary OS (with a disabled ethernet) when my new PC setup finally arrives. You can get win7 installed on new motherboards yes but it's way too much effort and not guaranteed to last well as far as I can tell, and the security updates stop in jan anyway so arguments are moot....
EDIT: I actually installed win10 on a PC t home for the first time this weekend (the previous installation on a tablet does not count.... win7 sucks on tablets), so I have my bitter-einder credentials..... this however is essentially the bitter end whether we like it or not, win7 is a lost cause.

Everything I do is GUI, I seldom use the terminal.
If I had any choice I would upgrade my machines back to Windows 7.
My brand new machine that exclusively has Windows 10 drivers has had numerous issues with driver changes that I never asked for.
Considering it is used in a live environment where stability is critical, it does not help my stress levels.
Words can describe my hatred towards Windows 10. But I dont want to get banned from the forum.

Only switched my home PC from Windows 7 to 10 this year.
And I won't go back to 7.

Definitely not. Windows 10 had quite a few updates in regards to this and has finally improved scaling between different resolution screens plugged into the same device, plus fuzzy fixes if scaling is adjusted on them.
And there is a lot of software W7 can't run, stuff I use daily:
Docker unless you want to use toolbox
WSL
Then the faster boot times, multiple virtual desktops, etc. All improve productivity tremendously.
For home users though, only thing I can think of is for more serious gamers, since you can check bottlenecks easier since e.g. Task manager had the ability to see if GPU is bottlenecking, and you can also easily swap what sound device is playing with two clicks, plus quick Bluetooth device connect (use windows key + K).
There are so many little things they have improved that just makes the experience better.
The only real gripe I have is that they moved stuff from control panel to settings, but over time it has become less of an issue.
I do have Start10 installed, but using it less and less as I like windows start menu's fuzzy searching. Used to be that the menu was super slow on HDD, it has improved a lot in the last two major updates.
I kind of sound like a windows fan boy now lol, but it's more that W7 really doesn't have anything going for it compare to W7 anymore, unlike at the beginning where features were all over the place.

There is an option to not have windows download driver updates, Google it.
