It's still unclear whether Windows 8.1 Update 1 will include tweaks to the user interface of Windows 8.1, including the return of some kind of "mini" Start Menu or whether Microsoft will introduce a new Start Menu at some future point. My sources have indicated that the Windows team is looking for ways to make Windows 8.1 friendlier for mouse and keyboard users (huzzah!) and that the return of some kind of Start Menu, along with the already introduced new Start Button, is in the cards. I'd be surprised if the Start Menu is part of Windows 8.1 Update 1, however.

Windows 8 is already more mouse and keyboard-friendly than Windows 7.

I'm on 8.1, and find it more of a pain to use with the mouse - The start screen is totally unintuitive for a mouse in comparison to the old start menu found in Windows 7.

Just give people the option of metro or classic menu styles and systems.

MS is allowing for a free upgrade to 8.1, with T&Cs. And is free until end of Jan. So it seems as though they are implying that 8.1 is an independent OS from 8.0?

+1

Offering the old way of using Windows together with the new way of using Windows. I'm still on Windows 7 - my only issue with Windows 8.1 was that my Bluetooth was not working for some reason...could not send/receive files using Bluetooth.

:erm: BS

8.1 will remain a free upgrade to 8 forever. The users on 8.1 Preview needs to upgrade to 8.1 before end Jan as it expires then.
