Found this article last night and thought id post it:

Clicky click

Basically download the updates files and install them in the order they specify. pretty simple.

Or you could just wait for the update to be pushed out tomorrow (I think)

The new start menu isnt present in this update sadly. But there is a whole bunch of other useful tidbits in this update! :)

More info on this update

I did my update yesterday. Although it states that the update is about 900mb only about 200mb of my data was used, probably because I keep my updates current.

I checked Windows Update, and haven't seen this update listed as yet.

Mines been listing since yesterday (perhaps even before that), just haven't downloaded it yet.

Anyone else having issues installing Windows 8.1 Update 1 so far?

Mine fails each time (4x so far) - I even went so far as to download the various files mentioned above last night and try a manual install - still no go either.

Even 2 hours online support with Microsoft today did not manage to resolve the problem, so any ideas on how to get it to work?

ALL my other updates for Windows 8.1 have installed correctly so far - just this one (KB2919355 - the main +/- 700 MB file) is constantly failing to work correctly.

Nope... no issues here.

The installation keeps freezing my laptop and desktop. Explorer.exe not responding type thing. :/

I had no issues installing, but a couple of apps were having trouble opening so I decided to restart. Problem is that it's now been stuck on the "Getting Windows ready" screen for an hour. Any ideas? I'm reluctant to just turn it off since that's exactly what the message says I shouldn't do.

Still no go here as yet with Windows 8.1 Update 1 - it still comes up with error messages - even after clearing out the multiple folders left behind from previous failed installs in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download - which are NOT deleted when it bombs out every time!

Just as a test...

unplug all other devices, excluding mouse, keyboard, monitor and lan cable/wifi.

Then retry.

I started the DL, and left. Upon my return I restarted the PC.

I did close skype before starting the DL, and besides the AV no other progs were running...

Update was successful.

the 8.1 update, while bringing some welcome updates, did fix some annoying problems, like the fan almost running full time, heating up the laptop, reducing battery. So thanx for that! (used to need to kill one of the svchost.exe's running to reduce the fan a bit)
but now... Onedrive has been put as part of user profile. I installed it originally on C:
as AD user, we are limited on user profile space, so now, keep getting complaint "Warning! You've exceed profile space"
and i cant move it... the suggestions are to right click on onedrive, go to properties, location and move to another location.
this wouldve been the solution, but in my case there is not frigin move button... it just shows the location (C:\users\name\onedrive), no option to move it :(
any suggestions will be welcome. (i looked in Onedrive, options... no luck.... even making ALL files "available online only" doesnt solve the profile space issue.)
