Windows 8 released for consumer testing

Hmm , gonna try it. I ran the compatibility test and the only app that is not ready is AVAST and some ATI updater thing... ah well I will just install MSE.

Thanks for the link to the ISO's, Gozzy.

whoohoo... was waiting for this to become available... now on about 80% downloaded, started just after 5pm (only have 2mbps leased line)
i guess those download servers are really hogged by now :-)
Got Win7 tablet I wanna try it on... 8 should be a better tablet OS than Win7, while still offering full compatibility with Windows corp network
Also want to put on a spare laptop, see what its like.
Wonder how long MS will let us use it?

Thanks !! but I think I'm gonna dump Avast in any case, will still decide.. Will only play around this weekend. Just started download and going about 450KB/sec on a 4mbps line.. not bad.

Goodie, sometimes I wonder why install anti-virus in the first place. In the last 5 years or so had no problems , maybe because I don't stick other flash drives from school and varsity students in my machine or visit weird sites :)

windows 7 beta expired either 3 or 6 months after retail release

I would expect similar with windows 8

just saw this now, all I can say is that I'm glad I've got a half decent connection to download with... just over 1.6MB/s and around 32min to pull all 3.3GB :D

D

I'll wait until the Final Retail is out then after the people have complained or praised it and then decided if I will be getting it or not.

Well Microsoft is going to use this as a gauge to see what people want to change. Also expect it to phone home big time and tell Redmond what people are doing and how they doing it.

I'm running this on my Samsung Series 7 Slate and its awesome.
I have been using the dev preview since it came out, and there are tons of little changes and big ones. Overall, I am completely sold and will definitely be using this as my main OS on both my PC and slate.

@Elimentals, when things go wrong, it asks nicely if it can phone home.

That might be the case for retail but if developer preview is anything to go by the my firewall will beg to differ.

Will this affect my installed applications in any way? When installing this, is it the same as a complete reinstall or will Win7 automatically be upgraded to Win8?

(Never done these betas before). ;)
