Windows 8 upgrade version conundrum

Cancellation is in, but I am dissapointed in MYBB for this sloppy reporting and promoting of this groupon offer

You don't think that they too were in the dark until getting clarification from MS?

I went there and it downloaded the upgrade assistant. The upgrade assistant still showed me the fee in dollars even though it said R299 on the website. On my credit card however, the fee of $39.99 has been deducted, not R299. I am pissed off to say the least.

Sheesh. I am probably going to buy tomorrow. Just to clarify, You don't actually have to have Win7 installed to upgrade but only have the key?

The upgrade assistant just runs on your pcs and checks if you're eligible. If you are, you insert your CC info and the download begins. I'm busy with the download at the mo.

We actually did contact Groupon for clarification before running the original article (and the follow up announcement of the extension).

Previous upgrade versions of Windows worked like this, but now there's a requirement that Windows XP users must be running SP3 for the upgrade to work... that suggests that the OS must actually be installed.

Hopefully someone else in the thread will have tried this soon and will be able to tell you for sure.

That's very silly/strange of MS. In interviews Erasmus said that we would be paying in USD. I wonder why they list the prices in Rand, then?

I did some research now and I think you maybe used the US version of upgrade assistant. Still not 100% sure, just got that feeling.

Also a point of clarification: even though it is not supposed to be supported, the upgrade assistant allowed me to purchase an upgrade and download the iso even though I am running Win 8 release preview.

I clicked on the R299 and that's the upgrade assistant which downloaded.

As I suspected. Thus both Groupon and Microsoft are epic douchebags and liars. They sold us a 500 Rand product at R600, and claimed a saving of R1400. That's ballsy to say the least.

I'm cancelling and hoping I get my money back. Putting Groupon in the spam folder and advising everyone to stay away.

That's what you get for trying to get a legit Windows.

This is according to the business lead for Windows at Microsoft South Africa, Colin Erasmus."

Guys whats the easiest way to cancel my GroupOn order? I dont see any option on the website and if I had known it was a upgrade option I would never have bought it.

Someone should get the ASA involved in this.
