Greetings earthlings,

Have a problem with my windows, display settings are not working and I'm getting this error:

Windows cannot fin

'::26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\1\::{C555438B-3C23-4769-A71F-B6...\Settings'.

Make sure you typed the named correctly, and then try again.

In other news when I try to access my firewall it's doing the same. Smells like a virus to me.

I'm currently lamenting the folly of running Microsoft security essentials and am unistalling for Avast.

Any help would be appreciated as to figuring this out???

Thanks.

When last did it work, and what changed?

I assume you get this error when your Desktop is launched? Or is it when you try to access your display settings?

First thing I would suggest you try: Uninstall your AV, disable your firewall (and UAC), and re-install your display drivers and see if that doesn't help. Alternatively, go to Device Manager and remove your display altogether and have Windows re-detect it and see if it re-creates the missing key.

Thanks bud I'll give it a go. Would rolling it back through system restore also not help?

Oh and to answer your question. I was playing a game last weekend and the pc restarted. Display settings have been stuffed since then.
