Anyone experienced this with W SBS 2008 where it takes forever to startup?

I boot into safe mode and it's fast, then when I shut down, it also takes forever to shutdown!

Network cable can be plugged in or unplugged, same story with either scenario.

Sugesstions for finding the problem?

Info: I'm going to uninstall all updates that were done in 2010 since there is no bloody system restore in 2008 (or I can't find it anywhere)

Probably DNS problems. Have a look at the event logs. You should be able to open the logs from another PC while the server appears to be hanging.

Use Sysinternals Autoruns> Latest version. Hide all Microsoft entries, check Logon, Winlogon, scheduled tasks, drivers (it's safe to delete driver references where it says "file not found"), services etc. Most scheduled tasks should be MS, the rest may be malware or third party apps (google, adobe, delete it, major slow down).

Remove non MS startup entries that you don't use and reboot. The thing about Servers are that people tend to approach problems with extreme caution, which isn't a bad thing, but it makes them daft when it comes to resolving problems.

Also, as I posted a while ago, disable any Offloading on the Network adapter> TX & RX, TCP the whole lot.

Here's the link, look for the Windows cmd to run as well in the thread (tcp chymney).

Do a virus scan with Malwarebytes and HitmanPro.

Leave the Updates. Let them stay, believe me.

Work it ;) :D :p

SBS has always been very slow. Both Startup and Shutdown. I have installed SBS on various machines in the past. Going back to SBS 4.5.

I installed SBS 2003 R2 (about 3 years ago) on a new Dell server with 2 Xeon 3.0GHZ processors and 4GB ECC ram.(In other words a proper server) Shutdown and startup is still 10 - 15 minutes.
