Windows user to Mac - Tips, Suggestions & Apps

I know, been said a lot, but ****…

You cannot beat this battery life, did maybe 2/3 hours in intelij doing dev work, so nothing heavy. 43% left and I took it off charge Friday.

Recently been trying out an M1 Mac mini as well. The OS itself is cool and I love the responsiveness of the M1 chip, but some things are pretty frustrating. Installing plugins for Photoshop, for example... is very complicated compared to either just running a setup file or copy and pasting a file in Windows.

Yeah, I remember that. Discussed it on this forum…

Thing is, it was way better than VLC at acestreams when that was still a thing, it plays absolutely every kinda video file, and the streaming torrent files thing is a real thing for me... I’m running an IPTV service, but It’s super inconvenient having to stay up ‘till 3am to watch a prime time US show… much easier to sail the seas at a respectable hour, and even nicer to be able to throw the show at the teevee. ;)

^ Soda Player: This is why I do my utmost to stay within what Apple provides, then Open source Apps and dedicated for purpose Apps.
Many Apps are || knock-offs for no good purpose, and this across IOS, Android, MacOs and Windows platforms.
Some caution needed as these || knock off's are plentiful.

I’d be lying if I say I don’t work from bed at least 20% or my day and it’s amazingly productive. Probably more so now as we hit winter.
Word of warning: I fell into this trap and it's taken ages to get my back right again. It's quite insidious because one doesn't notice immediately but once you do notice it's already quite far along. Been about 8 weeks since I cut it out and it's only feeling somewhat normal now.

I did that for months without issue, probably did the first 2 hours of my day in bed for a good 6 or 8 months.

Maybe it’s the fact that from there I spent most of the rest of my day at a standing desk.

Yeah this is me. Standing desk the rest of the time.

Also with my Crohn’s making me deeply uncomfortable it’s a far better bet working from bed than trying to be upright all day and fighting the pain.

But yeah I can see how it would become a problem if not balanced.

What's wrong with VLC? Looks great to me. Haven't run into a file it can't play yet.
VLC just doesn't feel built for mac the way IINA does. It even has a dedicated section in its preferences for the trackpad and magic mouse. No more accidental swipes causing videos to seek (i had this issue briefly a few years back).

Like VLC it plays anything including youtube urls.

But yeah, It's not so much what it does but how it feels. Once i changed over i never went back.

Oh Jesus don't get me started.
