Windows Vista Beta 2

Ok never mind that whole rant about Nod32. Found out that it doesnt work.

The reason for this is that due to the highly modified TCP/IP stack implemented in Vista, IMON (Internet Monitor) causes SVCHOST.exe (Owner: Network Service) to go a bit insane and eat 100% CPU. Apparently the only way around it is to disable IMON which kinda sux, but I would still rather trust Nod32 than most other AV progs...

scatlett, I use nero, and had no compatability issues, first thought I had to extract the file but then read through nero help and found that i could just burn the image straight to disc no poblem.

Nero ver: 6.6.1.4

anyone tried using vista's new deployment features, full automated or RIS, any conclusions, had a quick read through the vista blaggs, sounds interesting, will give it a go over the weekend if my other half leaves me alone :)

Does Vista beta give you an option to install on a different partition on the HDD - and does it recreate a new allocated disk space on the HDD or do I have to create a new partition with some or other tool to install it on a new separate partition so that it does not interfere with my XP installation??

My DVD was posted on Wednesday - so it should be here in about a week's time...

@ghalied, yes, the autounattend.xml method is pretty easy. I am having a bit of a problem getting it to change the default setup language (probably my own stupidity) and the admin account seems to be disabled once you have done a fully unattended install (just go in safe mode, login as admin then enable the account) but apart from that it is very easy. Just use a usb stick and put your autounattend.xml on there in the root, vista reads it automatically

I am at the stage where I can install vista with customised help and little OEM touches without touching the keyboard, and it didnt take long to figure out. Much better than the multiple files (txtsetup.sif, unattend.txt, winnt.sif) that have been a pain int he past.

According to what I've read: Yes, no, yes.

I will install a second drive in my PC. Apparently it sets up dual boot; on XP, the XP boot disk is C: and the Vista drive is D:, under Vista it's the other way around.

guys its easy make sure you have a partition and your fine just follow the instructions

vista works really, but when you install programs it dont like it makes your cpu work really hard and then you must reload it

this beta is kuk if you ask me

nothing has changed just everything looks real nice

its a nice looking version of xp, that runs really kuk

Vista beta 2

Hey Guys,

I'm busy downloading windows vista beta 2 now, ISO Length: 3,355,598,848 (3.1G)

Filename:

vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso

It should be done in an hour or so as its going between 600kb/sec-800kb/sec. If anyone needs a copy in the JHB area you are welcome to pm me and pick it up from my offices in Sunninghill, Sandton(just bring a blank dvd).

Thanks :)

@DM - So it would actually be better to wait for the Release Candidate than install the current public beta.

I downloaded vista, Office 2007 beta,Visio 2007 beta. I have the new office on my xp laptop running as a second install to my office 2003 just incase. It looks great MS have done a great job with the layout. I have a spare computer for vista but it was had Ubuntu on and strangly vista does not like to boot or intall from Ubuntu. I had to first install XP then vista boms out because i dont have 256MB Ram. I can find a decent second hand 256 MB simm chip (the on with the 2 slots) i dont want to spend R450 for wich i have been quoted. as this is just a experimental PC

The Release Candidates are generally the better versions to 'play' with, so ye.

There is a newer, faster version out already BTW although it's not "a public version".

I do hope that for those and myself who ordered the DVD will have access to the latest build as there is a 28 day delivery period... Anyone know who has ordered the DVD, if we are going to have access to the latest update?...

the betas arent available to everybody. geberal public gets access to beta2, rc1 and who knows what else. All the other builds are for TAP partners only (Technology something something I forget ^beer)

count me lucky.

Hi Disabled - I also received my copy yesterday and installed it on a new partition - going uhm uhm at the moment - re antivirus - you can install eTrust EZ Antivirus for free Version 7.1.9 (including a year's subscription) which is accessible via MS Vista's site. Don't know what your issues are with Windows Defender but it installs it by default. I have no issues with it.
There is some HW issues nl my TV card...current XP drvs don't work so no FM radio or Tv while I am on Vista. Will now be installing office.... will let you knaow what happens. First thing I did was disable the Use Account Control - a pain!!! it requests verification for everything that runs automatically (when you are logged in with Admin privilages)
