Winter is almost here...

Why I love winter.
First and most important. There are no flies and mosquitos.
No better sleep that in the winter.
Almost never sweaty and sticky.
I don't really drink coffee in the summer, so in winter I can enjoy a cup in the morning or evening.
Must say I wear shorts only 365, but now I get older the legs do get chilly some mornings.

Edit and ants are also minimal.
Winter is a problem with age , I understand now why the old people in the USA all move to Florida.

Those old rugby injuries , really coming to there own in winter

No mozzies and flies...and sleep easy. Thats why I Love Winter!!!

I hate winter, probably because I have little or no insulation!

Not even a boepens!
I just got insulation installed last week. It made a huge difference. I just need to close the chimney opening since there is a lot of cold air getting in my room.

Need cash to install a fireplace.

People who love summer in SA are crazy.

If you work in any professional setting and see clients, you can't wear shorts and sandles.
You have to go around in your black pants and shoes, etc. Many don't have AC, so now you're steaming warm and sweating and there's nothing you can do about it.

Go to a restaurant?
Most don't have AC running either. Outside is also humid and uncomfortable.

Mozzies and the lord of the flies are on the loose, as has been mentioned.
Do anything physical? Congrats, now you're a bit sweaty for the rest of the day.

Bedtime and you can't get comfortable as a mozzie might just make it inside,
it's too warm, the pillow is warm, if your body parts touch anywhere it's sweating/sticky.
A fan does very little.

You have to run the AC which munches power and makes a noise, dries out the air and drains the batteries in loadshedding times.

Summer is ASS.

---
Winter, none of those problems.

Feel cold? Put on a warmer jacket, warmer socks. A hat / cap also keeps in significant warmth.

If you're still somehow cold you have options:

Go for a quick walk / do some exercise / drink something warm. If you're really cold, add some cayenne pepper to your drink and you'll be steaming.
Any and all problems are solved.

Who in their right mind loves winter? I hate this thing with a passion.
I moved from PTA to Harties side and last year was our first winter and it was brutal.
I just do not understand people wearing shots and stuff during this time.

Anyway, for those who hate it like I do, what activities do you do pass time until spring?

is harties cold ?

PTA is much warmer than JHB

JHB was cold

harties in summer is madness, i went to brits in jan and furk me i nearly died with the heat

Maybe it is a mental thing for me. I do not know. Like today is sunny and warmish, but mentally I'm dreading winter already. Is seasonal depression a thing?

Yeah, its called seasonal affective disorder.

I mean JHB had temps of 29, 30 this weekend so sure evenings and mornings are chillier but this is great weather.

As an aside, anyone been to Sun City this time of year? Have an opportunity to go this weekend, temps looks like 24, 25, more thinking about the water at Valley of the Waves.
Was there 2 weeks ago, water was not bad at all, however, it rained for our last 2 days :(

Winter Pro's

1) No mosquitos and flies
2) No excessive heat
3) Best time to exercise, I guess due to point 2
4) Pool maintenance is zero
5) I like the temporary coziness and using fireplaces

Winter Con's

1) Shorter days
2) Cannot swim
3) Dry air and dust
4) No rain
5) Dry grass and ugly garden

Having said that, I think you can do more in summer, so would opt for summer if I had to pick one, but don't mind having this 50/50 split, get the best of both worlds.

I love winter, you don't feel sweaty all the time and can huddle on the couch when watching tv

I am the guy who wears shorts and t's all year round

Summer is horrible for me, I cant stand the heat, anything above 20 degrees and I feel like i'm in an oven
Out of interest, how big are you?

I love me some shorts and t shirts in winter just gota keep the kop and toes warm and you all good.

Winter Con's

1) Shorter days
Big factor this. In summer I can be outdoors before 6 and walk/run/whatever until 8 then get ready for work. In winter that morning outdoor time gets drastically cut.

I think that is where that bit of depression comes in as well. When I leave for work it is dark, when I get home it is dark. Hello darkness my old friend?
