Winter is almost here...

Man, I really, really hate winter!

The people who feel uncomfortable in summer, well... I feel uncomfortable 10% of time during summer- that's mostly when it becomes too hot. In winter, I am uncomfortable a 100% of the time, I just can't stand winter!

I never experienced 'winter' in my life.
Back at home, we experience summer throughout the year.

I don't know... Yesterday I bought one banket, one simple jacket and a pair of socks.

They urged me to buy gloves too, but I felt like they were bluffing.
You in Cape Town, dont worry, you will be cold and wet. Most people (that I have met) who comes from warmer climates, struggle with the cold and wet conditions.

Personally, in Winter, JHB is colder than Cape Town.

Our winter is warmer than an English summer.
My friend who at the time was working in London, posted a screenshot of 20 degree's celsius and a caption, nice summer day, so I replied with a screenshot of 20 degrees, and a caption, a nice winter day.

The amusing thing is when South Africans who moved to the UK all of a sudden start complaining about "heatwaves"...

JHB still has nice sunny afternoons though. If you get a chance to spend some time outside mid day it's far better than in the cape where it can rain for days on end and you don't get a break.

Unless you love the rain, then its all good.

we used to have actual winters here in SA, but hasn't happened in many a year now. I remember reading -8 below in MP some years back. I think it was around 2010. May have been cold some years after that but got no memories of proper cold.

Funnily enough took the dogs for a run this morning, and for the first time I'd say there was the smell of winter in the air.
What does winter smell like you say? It's like a wet, purplish smell.

GP definitely gets colder in winter than Cape Town. The wetness is the big difference. I personally like the wet winters. Perfect coffee shop weather.

25 in the uk in summer qualitatively feels like 30 in joburg.
It's humid, the sun is out for 16 hours, but chiefly the buildings are built to retain heat so it gets really warm inside with no respite in the evening.

So this expected mild and dry autumn and winter seems to be correct so far. Just insulated my house and there is a huge difference when it is a little colder outside. Also bought two aircons for the bedroom and seating room.
So I think I'm ready if it gets colder.

Gloves are mainly to keep the knuckle dusters hidden from view.
This gives you the advantage of having the element of surprise at all times against potential attackers.

As a bonus, it also insulates the metal so it doesn't freeze to your skin.

With those skinny little fingers you need protection from just using a knife and fork.

Winter has already passed, and I realized (just by seeing people on the street) that most don't really think about how they look in winter. I know it's way more important to feel comfortable, but still. People just throw on a jacket and that's it.
And it's really not that hard, with a bit of research, you can find tips on how to dress well.
Jinne it's Sunday night - lay off the tik.

So are mine but I hate winter.

I think I may know the key to this though. Highveld winters suck while WC winters have more appeal.
How? Highveld winters are pretty mild with maybe one or two dips below 0. Luckily no rain either
