Wireless chargers in SA

Wonderful, now we not only get radio, radio active and now magnetic signals running thru your body, but lets see how long this product will be on the market before some organisation claims it cause cancer or brain tumors. The firs action will most likely be the oaks that took on iBurst regarding the radiation at the towers.

If I understand this correctly, the device that is charged will still need to be plugged in to the "secondary" pad, and the both of them beeing placed on the "primary" pad? It would be a further adventage if devices come with built in "secondary (windings)" therefor eliminating the need for a second (secondary) pad? The primary pad can then become a standard device and all like wise devices can use it. Make me think of a topic last year about standardized chargers in the EU.

Certainly good thinking, on behalfe of Powermat. Like all new devices it sounds a bit pricey.
 
HMMM at an estimated R1400 ? Looks at his charger I think I shall stick with this definately way more portable...

Under R700 in USA...

All it affords you is a way to charge your device away from the electrical outlet without an extension cable.
Expensive gimmick.

Ok, so you don't have to take your toothbrush to your room to charge. Mine uses rechargeable AAA's....

Oh wait, it must be within about 7ft of the base station?
Still a gimmick IMO but perhaps there is indeed a niche market...

I dont get the advantage- give me a 3 pin adapter for 30 bucks that can do that same thing
 
Yeah the device that can charge via wifi signal is much more practical, put the charger in your bag with your phone / laptop etc and everytime you come in range of a wifi signal your device will start to charge...
 
Free electricity? i think i am going to buy a Wendy house and move next to the airport.
 
So you plug in this mat, then you plug your phone into a gizmo, and place them on the mat.

Can someone explain to me why I would rather do that than just plug a USB cable into my phone?
 
Technically, almost every one of your home appliances which plugs into a wall socket already uses this technology! .... lol

Cos you can show your friends - and omit to tell them about the connected base station in the cupboard...

...and show them the invoice :p

Kosmic - not really misleading, it's exactly what it is - and they've been available elsewhere for some time now - saw them at best buy last year. It's not the wifi thingymabob you are talking of... and on the subject, I have serious doubts about the capabilities of either - it's like a solar powered mobile phone - good to keep you on standby longer, not much good to recharge your tired phone.
 
Discovery had an awesome documentary once about wireless power via harmless microwaves. They had an hypothesis how they can channel solar power to the surface of the earth and the connected power stations all across the globe so that they can relay power. They also had a practical test where they channel a beam 60 miles and then charge a cellphone in the helicopter or something.
 
now if only the secondary was already built into my phone wouldn't that be cool like so many electric toothbrushes
 
Slightly offtopic: You can charge your cellphone from your telkom telephone cables, search youtube :-)

Obviously this is illegal and i do not condone such behaviour.
 
This sounds great, does it work with all devices that can fit on the pad, or only certain more modern devices, with this functionality built-in/enabled?

It's around 16v from an analog line if i'm correct... but it changes when you get a call - up to 50vdc? Hehehehehe
