Some help please.

I want to set up a wireless network between my two laptops @ home. Currently I only have access to the internet for both of them using a Billion 7300GRA wireless router.
Router is currently set to full bridge mode because I use RouteSentry on both the laptops and use dial-up connections. Different accounts for different laptops.

How will I go about to set up a network so that the Laptops can also communicate with each other, transfer files and still have access to the Internet.

Read somewhere that I should use an ad-hoc connection but that doesn't work because the laptop's Wi-Fi adapter is already busy(connecting to router for ADSL). And also because it is just a temporary connection.

So I want to do the following:

*Use router as access point for ADSL (I want to use RouteSentry on both laptops)
*Use router to connect the 2 laptops together.

Is this possible?

Thanks

I got it working now. Sort of.

Just joined the same WORKGROUP on both laptops.

Problem now is:
PC1 recognizes PC2 but not the other way around.

I can access PC2 from PC1 but when I open "Network" on PC2 it only shows itself in the locations and not PC1.

also

Shared my hard drives on PC2 and when trying to connect from PC1 it goes into the network and shows me all the shared HDD's and also "Public" and "Users" folder. I can access the Public and Users folders but not the shared HDD's. It says something about the account I'm logged in with was denied access.

Firstly what i suggest you must do is that you must make sure that both PC'S they are in the same subnet and make sure that you have shared the folders on both PC's.You can try that and if you need any further assistance you can please email the billion support on [email protected] and specify which operating system are you are using. This will help the support technician guide you through setting file sharing on both laptops.

For your shared HDDs can you check the permissions you have for this under security, you should have full access if you want to be able to cut, copy and paste files in the folders.

Thanx. I got it working up to a point.

Had to change a whole lot of settings and also add the name "Everyone" to share options.

Strange but it worked.

Not very secure. Everyone is everyone, whether they are in your domain/workgroup or not. You might find your neighbors access your shares via wireless as well :)

Yep, best to add the specific machine/username account.

Another nifty little way of accessing drives from another machine: you don't have to share access to the hard drive... The hard drive has a hidden default share which is accessible like any other shared folder, named [HardDriveLetter]$
for example: the C drive default share is C$.

What this means is that when accessing a machine, use the following(change the drive letter accordingly:
\\WorkstationName\C$
It will then prompt you for a username/password - the username should be in the format machineName\username (or domainName\username if on a domain) of the machine that you are connecting to. You should then have access to the entire hard drive of the target machine.

BTW, the account on the target machine used needs to have admin rights, and also needs to have a password enabled on it (ie: if the account does not have a password set, then it will not work). Also, you need to be able to connect to the target machine, so if you don't have network connection to it, then obviously it's not going to work :D
