Does anyone have experience with Wispernet? Seems like they are offering services in my area now. It's the closest we'll have to broadband aside from 3G. At R399 for 256k and R499 for 384k uncapped it seems like a viable dailup replacement.

Have you tried to search these forums for them? Thats normally the best way to get some info on a specific wisp, also, search for the general term "wisp" while you are it! ;-)

Prince Albert, daar is seker nie ADSL beskikbaar daar nie, dan moet mens seker wisp ?

ADSL is definitely not available here. I did a search on the forum, but couldn't find anything useful - hence the need to start the thread.

wispernet

which wispernet are you looking into? I too am trying to find information on this company and wether or not it will work on xbox for online gaming.

Wispernet (George) was bought out by Hilbert Electronics
Wispernet (Oudtshoorn) changed its name to CyberWisp

The one I was looking into was the one situated in Oudtshoorn, which apparently is now known as CyberWisp.

Wispernet in Oudtshoorn

I am with wispernet in Oudtshoorn Districkt.I have been with them for 13months on the R499 uncupped contract. My average speed is about 260 to 265kbs.I live nearby the Calitzdorp spa.I really want more broadband speed and spoke to the technition Hugo.He told me telkom said after the world cup.Its nice to be uncapped but ..... speed i want more since Telcom is upgrading soon see http://www.techcentral.co.za/telkom-set-to-unveil-higher-speed-adsl/14548/

So hopefully they to will upgrade.I don't mind paying more for a faster cap the thing is we limited in the rural area's

I know the okes of wispernet. One of my buddies have internet with them and he says his 256k line seems to be stable

Hi Jacques. As discussed earlier today, we will look into upgrading our accounts as soon as we have more bandwith available.
Hi Kameelperd. Unfortunately its not always possible to keep everyone happy, but we sure try and do our best, I am happy if your buddy is happy :)
Boms, online gaming as a rule of thumb is a no-no on wireless, to many variables. It is possible, but its going to frustrate you sometimes.

If your wireless links are setup correctly online gaming should not be a problem at all...why u say online gaming is a no no on wireless ?

WisperNet - George
