Wits students protest over tuition fee increase

I see they're saying that guy in the bakkie drove through the barrier and tried to run over students. Apparently broke one girl's leg.

But then you have this...

This court interdict changes everything. UCT protests have been the least violent nationally - yet we get this. It means war #UCTshutdown

That honey ‏@honeyco_co 17m17 minutes ago
@PaulivW they should have killed the bastard #WitsFeeMustFall

So the students tried to block a public road?

if their protest left the grounds of the university then a different set of rules apply... the motorist probably felt threatened and was trying to protect himself.

And with these acts of violence on innocent bypassing motorists the protestors

The guy was only an innocent bypassing motorist before he tried to run students over. Not condoning what happened, but he could have killed someone. He's lucky the worst injury is a broken leg.

They blocked a public road.... are you assuming the driver knew the protests related to the university?

The protesters are lucky they aren't spending the night in jail.

He's a Wits student. He knew.

I haven't seen any news reports stating as such... also I was a varsity student.. I wasn't aware of all the protests on campus since I didn't go in every day towards the end of my degree...

Well I'm telling you that he's a student. It was also tweeted by one of the news publications I follow. If you don't mind trudging through tweets from five hours ago I'd be glad to give you a list.

And you'd have to be living under a rock to not know about this protest.

According to Twitter they are still there attacking cars... so what did the other drivers do?
