Hi there...

Is there some way how I can establish a network connection between for example, 2 notebook computers which use Wireless LAN connections...? I do not have an access point - only the 2 notebooks...

you need an access point man. the way wireless works is that the pc needs to connect to a router, which links the other pc's and then sends back the info.

But isn't there any way to connect like a cross-over LAN system...?

You can do a peer-to-peer wifi setup, using adhoc!

Seriously, what is the matter with a good old crossover cable? Faster, cheaper and more stable. Don't re-invent the wheel, people.

Agreed! Even though I am a wug-fanatic, I will always recommend cable over wifi when possible!

Perhaps cable is not an option in this particular case though?

You could use an ad-hoc wireless network, though a simple crossover cable would probably be a better option.

The thing is, the mobility... We are 3 guys that have our own personal notebooks and we sometimes move around alot... We have mananged to setup using the adhoc method. Works fine for me... Vista has nice wireless LAN setup features....! :p

There is just one more thing... My HTC TYTN (running Windows Mobile 5) doesn't have a network exploring feature... Any free software you guys know off...?

OK, that makes sense... although at home I just plug and unplug the cable as I need it. Anyways, whatever is easiest for you.

Look here for some Freeware Wireless scanning software...

I am sure I saw some in the list. Too lazy to search for it though :p

Thanx Garyvdh...! That freeware site helped me with other issues as well... I also managed to browse the WLAN without any additional software for the HTC TYTN... Thanx...

True. I sometimes battle to connect to the laptop next to me.
Cables are better and a lot faster.
For awesomeness between several laptops/wireless devices without an access point or router, try an ad-hoc connection between more than two laptops. I found it worked... accidentally.

I go with adhoc or cross over lan cable.I do this at home and found that the cable is better.
Just get an ordinary lan cable and crossover 4 wires...sorry i cant remember the colours, just google for crossover diagram.
