I know lots of males that can do the work of 3 other experienced male or female developers, so I'm not sure your point holds true

I guess why the female developers stand out is that its a tougher environment to get in for them and only the best survive. Its so easy for a guy to get into the industry - too easy - and as a result the average dev guy gets his butt kicked by a girl.

Sure, our top 3 developers are all guys but the next 2 are woman - out of a pool of 13 developers have all the female developers in the top half is indicative of their skills.

That's why I asked for his source :)

I don't think you can relate productivity to gender, it's way to vague.

Different types of thinking, I will agree. If you check out this /. article on How Men and Women Badly Estimate Their Own Intelligence, you'll see the author mentions how men are generally better at spatial awareness and women generally at language development.

Personally I don't like to generalise...

If you have been in the industry then you will know that there are not a lot of female devs, its a fact not a steriotype.

The reason why ? I think there are a lot of reasons... the main one is that the ladies do not enjoy development. Its as simple as that, a lot of women have the ability but really don't enjoy it.

100% male team here. previous female dev who was in our team for very short while had more asset power than development prowess. i'm yet to encounter another decent through and through female developer. so far only met one who funny enough was also a car fanatic. now she could program and tune, mod and service up her car by herself :D

not here where i am. don't know which places you think or know of, but here it is 2 tier interview in which both are about a programming, knowledge and skill death match.

but yes for junior developers it would be more lenient to get in than seniors...

Women develop earlier. Everyone knows that :D

Seriously though. The problem wasn't always the women techies, it was the men who gave them too much attention and credit. Left alone, I reckon they would be a close match.

This thread has huge red warning lights buzzing all over... I'm just waiting for a girl to jump in and then watch the gender insults flying.

PS: My post on Excel still stands... :D

I made a point about woman being good at attention to detail. Its obvious you lack this ability (and the ability to read) - please re-read my threads aloud and very s-l-o-w-l-y before you post questions :p

the problem is. well with most of the ones i interacted with is that they can't keep themselves from having a weird emotional fit when they are under development stress, being corrected or when the development team is being ***ked out. then again some male devs also do that ;)

don't get me wrong. i'm quite sure there are some female geniuses out there. just yet to get more interaction with them. maybe the most of them just arn't that much into software development it is like female crackers/hackers; they are few and the the real ones are even less.

i can concur that crunching code isn't that glorious 24.7 anyways...

Well female developers are on the rise. Our office has 2 and 11 males. The reality is that female developers are more productive than male developers.

They also have a different approach and excel in certain fields. They also have very good attention to detail without being anal about it :)

Any female would be more productive than a male... she can have kids, he can't...

exactly. a woman always gives you a little more back;
little loving, she might give you a child.
bad behavior, **** storm.
etc etc.
